from what ive read the eastern longshoremen are notoriously lazy. there have been stories reported from union truckers that say tey dread hauling from those terminals...long delays and useless help. but since there union truckers they have to honor the picket lines.

alot of the longshoremen make between 100-200,000 per year with overtime. the crane operators earn about 300,000 per year.

i was union electrician so im not against union per say, but i think a 77% pay increase is absolutely outrageous. i say bring in automation and quicken things up.

out Costco ran out of TP and paper towels on day 1 of strike. mind you, i didnt go there for paper goods, i was just doing our usual monthly run. we dont need either of these products as my wife keeps a good supply normally.

i saw out gas price at the pump go up $.15 per gallon today opposed from yesterday due to Israel threatening to strike iran oil infrastructure. we DONT import iran oil. the gas in the station was purchased under todays prices, not future price. how can it go up in 1 day. everything is just nuts.

The strike has largely been postponed, until after the election.

Looks like there’ll be plenty of azzwipe for all. Yay! (y)

let's see
1727998633900.png

$39/hr, 40 hours/week, is about $78k/year
to get to 100k, which is +22k, would take 376 hours, or almost 8 hours of overtime per week (at time-and-a-half).

You know?
I'm ok with that. You should be able to make $100k today with 48 hours/week.

200k:
so that's an extra 122k.
That would take an extra 2085 hours at time-and-a-half, or an extra 40 hours a week.

You'd begrudge someone making $200k a year for working 80 hours a week?

Here I thought they were lazy, but instead you're crying because someone literally killing themselves at work (you can't work 80 hours a week all year long without substantial damage to your health, never mind the workplace safety problems incurred by working when you're over tired) is making 200k?

Maybe I misunderstood your post, you must be pro-union with a line like that.
These people clearly need better representation by their unions to force the employer to hire more workers and provide a safer workplace.

It's all connected.
If Israel hits Iran hard, you can bet that the strait of Hormuz will be closed and/or mined (effectively closed), which disrupts over 20% of the world's oil.

Prices will go up, and even domestic prices will go up, because of the "Free Market" - after all, we can't tell domestic producers, even the ones pumping oil out of federal lands (with ~$20B in subsidies per year), what price to set, so they're going to say "it's a free market and China will pay more for oil so we're charging more, either pay it or we'll sell it to someone who will".

Free market is a marvelous thing!

What kind of market do you like?

Honestly, a truly free market may be an improvement. What we have, isn't; it's massively distorted but lots of people love to pretend it's free because they reap benefits from the way it's set up.
The most vocal "free market enthusiasts" generally aren't particularly interested in free markets; little people who like the idea of the free market are ill-equipped to handle either our current ersatz free market or a truly free market.

Unfortunately, a truly free market won’t ever happen.
And you know that. I’d like to live in a world with no abortion, but I know that won’t happen.

Being close to free markets is still pretty good compared to all the other current options out there.

I generally agree.
I'd prefer we call a spade a spade, because certain folks tend to say "it's a free market you can't do that" when others want to do something that you don't do in Free Markets™, but they're happy to do it for their own reasons.

I imagine you have zero proof that those helping our country be energy independent , by pumping our oil out receive $20 billion in subsidies for simple pumping oil out of the ground (per year?), but here’s your chance to actually prove your statement which I think is totally BS

According to the WSJ the head Union guy makes $900,000 per year and rides round in a Bentley.

It’s good to be king.
