Do you have a drone?

I'll eventually buy one. What holds me back now is the technology is changing so fast. For example, if I paid $1000 for a drone today, a year from now that same technology will be $700.....

My neighbor kid has one. When it warms up I'm gonna pay him to take some aerial shots of my farm. He's 10 years old. He's all about it. :)
$$$ is the issue with keeping up with technologies. I chalk it up to continuing education costs on stuff I'm interested in. Thinking ROI is a buzz kill. I'm sure your neighbor kid would be all over it. Give him a few bucks and rock his world of possibilities. He might treasure you long after you're gone.

They are a luxury toy for most. I don't use mine commercially and I should pull it out more often. Garandman, I like your idea. I think I will do the same and surprise my neighbors each with and aerial shot as a gift. Or maybe I should ask them first? I would never shoot a drone down unless it was truly invasive but we all have limits.

Don't go there without asking first. If they spot it flying over they have no idea of your intentions and could get upset. I am sure they would like a nice picture but ask first.

At 100ft they won't know it's there unless you pointed it out. At 400ft you can't even see it or hear it.

Yes the are great fun but you won't fly it as much as it deserves after the novelty wears off. That said, I don't have regrets.

This is very true. The lens though is pretty wide though so if you want more detail than a property shot, you need to get closer. When it gets hard to see, the pucker factor goes way up. I have flown mine out over the water about 1/4 mi and I was sweating bullets.

I could see mine at 400ft, but couldn't tell which way it was going. :D
I bought the Phantom3 standard. It was 500 when it was a current model. It has less features and range than the pro modes. I can fly it 100 meters above takeoff area and I can go out about as far before loosing signal. I use mine to photograph my land as I build my farm. I don't fly it as often a si would like to, because I am usually too busy trying to get work done. But I do try to put it in the air once a month to keep track of the progress.

I wonder how long before county tax appraisers use drones to look at your property, instead of using aerial photos and street views.

Anyone make interceptor drones? :)

interceptor?; just build a controller with higher power ratings.

So, how far away from you Candy again before you lose the signal?

Different drones are going to have different ranges. I was flying over an adjacent ranch looking for an escaped bull and started getting freezes on my screen at about 4900 feet or so but kept going to try for a mile. I made the mile and still had some freezing going on but at that point I was starting to get low on battery power so I turned for home. The controller on the P4 is pretty cool, part of the display shows everywhere you have flown but theres also a green line that tells you the straight route back home.
