Do You Have A Cold Adult Beverage While Operating The Tractor?

I am in agreement with JDeere... madder of fack, I ain't sure my tractor will run without a glass of iced tea in the cup holder...

I have A small cooler on my tractors with a half a dozen beers in them & a few bottles of ice tea . I just drink light 3.2 beer & I like the taste , & pretty much drink from noon on 7 days a week . I can stand water or soda pop & Also haven,t touched any hard stuff for 20 years .

Its more of a pain killer for me As I wont take any medications & if I feel a buzz I,ll switch to ice tea . I Quit Driving 6 years ago , so Thats never an issue & theres nothing around Me for quite a ways at least a half of a mile Except for My Farmer Neighbor .

If I,m planning on Working down by the river or my little pond project I,ll do that in the earlly mornings before I have my first one . I spend most of My days on the tractors on several projects I have going all over weather permitting .

But after several years of working on them i,m getting close to being done with most where i will be able to sell one of my tractors & most attachments with the exeption of a finish mower & boxblade . Which should keep me more then supplyed with my ceegars & beer till I,m gone . . Bob

I too have a few when mowing. I am not mowing w/ a tractor but w/ a ZTR so a little safer. I know my limits and never do anything really buzzed. I have had 1 or 2 before doing some FEL and grading work but thats about it. Usually my tractor work gets done early in the day so then its usually water or coffee. But when done I do sock them away (usually Heineken, Corona's or Coors lite) Now I am thirsty

My wife Picks up the beer 7 Ceegars for Me . I Have a Guy that Picks up My fuel & any Bulding materials for Me when needed . I Also Dont Allways wait till noon .

Most people dont be understand why i haven,t even left the property for 6 years either, but I just have no desire or need to . I have very little contact with people as the wife say,s I dont play well with others .

We,ve lost most of the friends we,ve had over the last ten years either due to health reasons or traffic accidents mostlly . Ussually due to the other driver not paying attention .

6 years ago I lost my best friend to a head on collision caused by Him crossing the center line while talking on the phone ending up in a firey explosion where all were killed . That had a Huge impact on Me & when I decided to not renew my drivers licence .

I,m looking forward to when the wife will retire & also be able to quit driving . there are lots of folks that are more then glad to pick up necesary items for a small fee . & any of our other needs could just be delivered . Might not be the life for most. But works great for Me . . Bob

When I was working for a rancher neighbors, I heard lots of stories from others, as well as from him, about the things that happened when he was a heavy drinker; little things like him running off the dirt road on the tractor and taking out 150' of barbed wire fence. He told his wife the steering linkage broke on the tractor. However, from the time I met him and his wife and we became good friends, he was a teetotaler. Of course, I spent a lot of time on his big old Oliver tractor cutting and baling hay, and he told me that, even though he didn't drink anymore, that he didn't care how much I drank when I was using his equipment.

I have a real nice little ice chest that's just the right size to carry on that Oliver, so I'd put two beers in it along with a couple of 7-Ups and lemon/lime Gatorade (later changed to the blue PowerAde). I never drank the beer while I was working with the equipment, but often had a beer or two driving the tractor home at the end of the day.

But my own little tractors and riding mowers were just too rough riding for drinking anything while using them. But I did sometimes set that ice chest under a shade tree for break times.

I have a little rule for myself that I never drink any alcoholic beverage while operating any equipment or tool. I won't even drink a beer and use my cordless drill. Once the work is over for the day (Miller time?) I will have a beer, but I really prefer to take a shower, put on clean clothes, and relax with a beer or a nice glass of red dry wine. This is just my own personal rule, and I'd never say a person who drinks a beer or two while operating their own equipment would be wrong. However, if you work for me, I'll even buy the beer, but only serve it when work is done at the end of the day.

Did I fail to mention that operating a grill or smoker is exempt from my rules.

I don't have anything against drinking a cold one and I'm not going to preach... back in the olden days I either had one in my hand or within reach most of the time..... as I've gotten older and only a little bit smarter, I've discovered that beer simply doesn't do anything to quench my thirst... Quite frankly, in the Great Republic of Texas, I consider it much to hot to consume alcohol.... At the end of the day I love to sit under the pavilion and have a cold beer and look at my successes for the day. Very satisfying.

Even though I had my own business, I never drank while working for 38 years. Now that I am retired, I have a different set of rules to follow. I may drink one beer while on the tractor on a hot afternoon, but nowadays I find that if I drink more than one, it makes me a little tired and then I don't feel like working. So I never have a second one till it's after 5 o'clock. (somewhere)

In over 40 years of operating many types of equipment I have not had 1 drink while operating. Heck, 3 years ago I fell off a 6 yard Loader and broke 5 ribs while stone cold sober
