My one co-worker had 6 terraced acres and a 48" wheel horse. The original owner left a bird feeder just outside the kitchen window. This guy drank Rolling Rock returnables & would deviate to leave his MT on top of the feeder. Next lap he would swing by and pick up the full bottle his wife left in place fo the MT one.

I wonder what he's drinking now that Budwiser bought 'Rock & the substituted Newark, NJ municipal water for the mountain streams of old Latrobe...

Some might call us a "drag" or a "downer" but the alcohol is for when the work is done, tools are put away, and the evening is well upon.

Others are different and I don't disparage them out if hand.



As an aside, the same goes for hunting. Never, ever drink while handling firearms but know some who do as a part of the overall "hunting trip" experience. I don't go hunting with them, politely.



Other posters above made the point that it is hard enough to keep your head and pay attention while sober, so, why add alcohol to the mix and compound the situation when there's plenty of time later to enjoy the drink..........????

A possible answer to your last question..........Alcoholism?

I do sometimes. And sometimes I mix club soda, white wine and ice and have it sit somewhere where I can have a sip every so often while moving.

All my trips to the ER room and all of my stitches happened when I was absolutely somber. Not that I now drink not to hurt myself, but I am probably extra careful with beer near by??

Club soda? I didn't know that was fit to drink. I kinda like scotch and water, but I'd heard of scotch and soda so often, that I'll never forget going to Carlsbad Caverns in 1969 and we stopped in the White Buffalo Saloon and I ordered a scotch and soda to see what it was like. I took one sip and told the bartender to throw it away and bring me a scotch and water.

It cuts down the wine to make it lighter and bubbles from the soda make it very refreshing. Traditional light summer drink in my old country. The idea is you can drink bigger volume, as the summer needs, and still not get too tipsy.

WOULD NOT THINK OF IT well to be honest I have on occasion, but normally no, as the majority of my work is with the FEL or B/H = both hands needed..

I will add the few times I have been injured was the result of being in a hurry, frustrated or mad and good judgement did not prevail..

Did not say in the news story, another neighbor was there right after this took place, also common knowledge that he in known to have a few too many

I don't need it either but sure do like it. I'm the first to say alcohol can cause trouble but then again incompetance or stupidity can as well. Some folks are more awkward and dangerous sipping shirley temples than others sipping scotch. YES I do sip back some euphemism while on my tractor.

Alcohol is a compounding factor and tractor work is already hazardous enough - JMAO, etc.

I know in my younger days, I probably would have. In my young years I was invincible. However as I have grown older, hopefully I have grown wiser, and I don't mean Budwiser. I know some that would think otherwise. I think the wisdom comes from making mistakes. There is a Will Rogers quote somewhere that explains that so much better.
