5.5 flat acres of this, ignore the logs in the middle as its the only spot on the property with them. Id love to buy / rent a bobcat with a proper forestry cutter but that just so expensive. One day of rental is $800 locally for the bobcat and cutter. If I can get away with a rotary cutter and a 25hp tractor that would be ideal since we'll have the tractor forever and the bobcat would only be for a few months. Largest trees we could find are 2-3 inches and softwood the bulk of the work would be the stupid vines and such.

What's your 25hp tractor? Some call their 25hp riding mower a tractor, or it might be an older full-sized 4000lb ag tractor.

No logs and no trees bigger than about 2" O.D.

I have a 25hp that I clear thickets with. Go around the big stuff when bush hogging and come back with the chainsaw to cut off close to level with ground.

I think you’d probably much destroy the little tractor doing that. Rent the skid steer and extreme duty cutter.

I would work on that CAREFULLY with our B7500, you will have to work around the downed logs, but it will chew up brush up to 1.5", its happier with 1" and smaller though, so perhaps work around those and come back with a chain to rip them out, or cut them off.

If you stab a stick into the radiator though, you will spend at least as much as you saved by not renting the bobcat.

Silver,

I have a 23HP Kubota BX and my Land looked like that at one point. I run a 48” LandPride rotary mower
My advice is to take your time, walk the property and remove all the big obstacles. Winter is a great time to see what’s hidden in the brush! I think a decent brush hog is about $1500, so if you get 2 days out of it, you’re ahead of renting!!

Go SLOW!!!

Cheers,
BN

As has been said take your time. Use a chain saw. Protect your radiator. May need to cut in reverse. Hope you are physically able to cut your logs and burn them. Small fires are good for such. May need to spray with 2-4-D to help control brush. If you have a blade or landscape rake they can be used to push what needs to be burned into a pile.

Borrow a neighbor's tractor for a weekend. Add cheap hydraulic fluid when you rip a hose off, straighten the bent clutch rod, fix the radiator with Gunk, ignore the bent loader frame, set BOTH front tires flat so it won't be obvious one has been de-beaded, patch the ripped seat with yellow or black duct tape and try to drain out some of the fuel when you accidentally put gasoline in the tank instead of diesel. Park in on their lawn so they won't notice the engine oil leaking out of the crimp in the oil pan. Tell them thanks and have a nice day. We'll watch (again) for the abuse complaints here made by your unappreciative neighbor. Tell them you didn't need the rotary cutter so you left it behind the barn. Then see it it's still above the swamp water level where you got stuck and had to drop it off. Cover your tracks with lawn clippings.
