Did you use Bio-diesel? I've used it in a few of my other tractors and I have a much harder time starting with that type of fuel...

Finally found time to replace the fuel pump that I've had for weeks. That was the problem. Installed new pump, bled air off new fuel filter, and it started right up. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
New pump was $58 and change.
Now for the real good news...my wife wants to learn how to run the tractor so she can help keep our 15 acres mowed. She'll pick it up quickly.

To me, that was the good news! $58 for the fuel pump was very reasonable. That your wife is going to learn how to operate is good news also, but secondary to that great price!

I had the same problem with starting. Began with white smoke, got new glow plugs, kept smoking, got new preheater to replace glow plugs, would not start, got new fuel pump. Alot of things going wrong with this machine. Maybe the 55 was a bit premature.

perhaps.. but how does this explain my experience with my DK55c?

515 hours, 18 months.. here's the problems's i've had with mine:

- replaced pin that worked itself loose on the shuttle shift (warranty)

- replaced rear lightbulb (warranty)

- replaced spring in door handle (warranty)

i think the problems some folks are having are isolated problems (to be expected with a newer model; probably indicative of all-things-mechanical, be they cars, trucks or tractors).

i can't be happier with my DK55.

The problem I had with mine sure hasn't soured me on my tractor. I love my 55.

It doesn't sound like a lot of things are wrong with the machine, but that there was a lot wrong with the diagnosing.

White smoke at startup is not unusual at all. I haven't seen any diesel engines that didn't have at least a little white smoke from a cold start, and that usually dissipates on warming.

I would have to wonder about the service techician were I having the same problems.

Head gasket????? Does your coolant ever get low?
