As bad as the switches can be the starter relay up on the firewall fails more often. I lubed up the switch years ago and it has been perfect since. They are pretty easy to change out, there is a molex plug on the end of it, but several have taken them apart and cleaned them up. I squirted fluid film in mine some time back. if you want to see what it looks like, here is my thread about lubing up the throttle linkage, but you can see the switch and molex in the photos.
