I have been having a problem shuttling from reverse to forward on the move I get the grind. I have to come to a complete stop to shift correctly. Forward to reverse works fine. I have adjusted the clutch free play with no change. Any ideas.?

Never seen this problem yet, but the only thing I can think of would be maybe the shuttle shift needing some adjustment. I’m not quite sure of the adjustment procedure on the DK55. I would call the dealer you got it from and let him know what’s going on. They should get you all fixed up.

I put a call in to the Dealer he is a little stuck on this also. He has not looked at it yet. Is there a way on the DK series in general that you know of to make an adjustment on the shuttle

I'm trying to understand this correctly.

While backing up, you press the clutch in, but do not touch the brake, and while still "coasting" backwards you try to put it in forward?? It grinds when you do it this way, but does not grind when you do it the other way,,,,, going forward, press the clutch, but not the brake, and while "coasting" put it in reverse??

I was under the impression that you always had to stop while going from forward to reverse,, or reverse to forward. I always do mine that way.

There seems to be some confusion on this issue. The dealer thought that a stop is required also. Here is the quote from the Kioti sight on this issue.

"12x12 Synchronized Transmission The fully synchronized shuttle and main transmission allows smooth operation by depressing the clutch but without coming to a complete stop."

This sure makes it apear as though no stop is needed. I think this quote is on the DK65 unit also.

You have it right. That is the whole point of a shuttle shift: changing directions without having to come to a dead stop. Some are "clutchless", like New Holland's ESS on the 2120 or the GST tranny on the Kubotas (actually electronics release and engage the clutch).

The Kiotis I test drove didnt require a full stop. It may be that an adjustment is necessary.

JSDK55,

On your transmission you can shift up and down while moving.

Your shuttle lever is different,, you have to come to a stop.

Generally when I am mowing, I am in 1st gear in the tranny, but high range on my sub-tranny. I leave those two levers in those positions so the only other lever I use is the shuttle between forward and reverse.

The specs say otherwise. I could see if they just stated the main transmision and not the shuttle but they did include the shuttle in the statement. This is confusing though. I have seen others say they can shuttle without a stop on DK tractors also

I've never tried it. I'm to scared as to what I would hear. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I can't on my DK35.I have to stop to go from forward to reverse or reverse to forward. You can shift the main gears on the move but not the shuttle.

The main shuttle on all DK series tractors (DK65 included) is fully synchronized. Meaning you do not have to come to a complete stop when using the shuttle. The LK/LB Shuttle is a Mechanical shuttle which requires you come to a complete stop before using it. Im not sure on the procedure to adjust the shuttle on the DK55. I would be sure to get it to your dealer and have it checked out.

Thanks for clearing that up. I would have thought twice before buying if it did not shuttle without a stop. Now if I could just convince my dealer

JSDK55 - Show him page 4-11 in your owners manual. "The shuttle shift lever may be shifted while the tractor is moving slowly and the clutch is depressed" If he still doesn't believe it tell him to call Kioti Service.

Your correct I never noticed that little blurb. Thanks so much for your help. I think there are going to be a lot of calls to dealers on this matter. Someone might accuse you of being a trouble maker.! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Your honesty and integrity as a dealer is truly appreciated. I just wish you were closer

This is how the shuttle works on the DK's. I have noticed that if you in a sense "short shift" the shuttle it will grind on almost all of them especially when new. When this happens sometimes the clutch will have to be depressed and held for a few additional seconds before changing directions. From the factory the tractors are very "tight".

I have tried that I halve to hold in the clutch 2 seconds after a stop. Every time it sets in neutral for a while it will grind going it to forward also. I was hoping it would work its way out but I have 50 hours and it seems to be getting worse

I've heard mine grind a few times while I was still moving(clutch depressed) so I always figured you had to stop first before changing direction. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

MY DK 50 started out grinding when shifting from F to R while moving. Than started grinding when shifting from a standstill. Finally locked up in reverse. Had fun loading on trailer for trip to dealer. Dealer called Kioti service they faxed them the repair procedure. They are aware of problem synchronizers where improperly shimmed. Simple fix break tractor in half tear the rearend down replace synchronizers and reshim. Tractor has ran great since. This happened at about 50 hours. Glad it happened under warranty. Hate to have had to foot that repair bill.
