My wife and I would love one. The retail ones I’ve seen can run six thousand or so delivered/installed. Anyone tackled this themselves or used a good kit?

Would this be attached to the residence, if so, check for local building permits and codes.

If outside X-distance from the home per codes and typical insurance policy, then yeah, you could build one. There are some key details in all of it, some of the better YT video channels cover this.

I was seriously looking into building one, but hated how much space they took up. I also felt that I couldn't find a place to put it that didn't block my view, or be in the way of doing things on my porch.

Since we couldn't make up our mind, we bought a metal fire ring/bowl thing, which has worked out great. I paid $300 for it from Sams, and it's become our favorite way to spend our evenings. When friends are over, we have four chairs all around it, but most of the time, we just have the two chairs. When we have parties, we slide it out of the way for more room on our porch.
