3pt disc's are good for smaller tractors that you can transport on a trailer. a drag disc is usually larger / longer and is made to road transport.

i would not want to do a large are disc job with a smaller 3pt.. but they sure do pick up and go easier...

Of the 3 types of disk: 3-pt, drag, and hyd. lift, There is no doubt that the 3-pt is best for small gardens. That is the main reason they are so popular. On them little gardens, a rototiller would be better (get the soil worked quicker and use less fuel, unless the soil was rocky). Another reason for the 3-point's popularity, for non-rocky ground, on small gardens, is that many folks cant swing the extra cost of the rotiller, or don't want to deal with the greater complication. Anyone using a 3-pt, on more than 1/2 acre, is probably burning double the fuel, to get the job done, than they would with either of the two pull-type disk's (drag, and hyd. lift). As the cost of fuel continues to rise towards the stratosphere, the 3-pt disks are likely to loose some popularity for folks working more than 1/2 acre or so.

Good for you. If it is in usable condition that sounds like a good buy to me. Hope you get a lot of use out of it.

This is how poster's terminology here on TBN gets me (an admitted novice) confused. I have two old "drag" discs, and since they have no wheels at all, I doubt I'll be doing any "road transport!"

Before getting a transport disk, the neighbor did, and guess Dad did too when disking the neighborhood gardens he'd plowed. There was no doubt when he/they were headed for home..!!
