difficulty selling used B7800

Interest has picked up recently, and I have gotten some realatively reasonable offers, but everybody still wants to low ball. At this point, I think I will hold onto it throughout the winter and try listing it again in the spring. Not enough time to get a new rig up and running before it gets too cold in the garage.

This is happening to everyone in retail right now. Everyone assumes that because of the economey that they should be able to give retailers an abnormal beat down.

Apparently the John Deere dealers around here haven't heard that the economy is down. The best I've managed to get is 10 to 11 percent off MSRP on tractors that they've had on their lots for almost a year. I'm not trying to kick a person while they're down but market conditions just don't support that pricing right now. Every other dealership has been more than willing to work with me and give me a pretty good deal which I believe to be fair to both sides. I guess that's why it's not likely for me to be driving anything green in the near future.

I think that is due to the fact that JD dealers think they can rely on perceived opinions that JD is the best thing since sliced bread. JD is the most well known name, so they try and play off that. Guess what JD dealers, there are other brands out there.

Once again, my opinion is that you are still obviously priced to high. You freely admit you have gotten some "reasonable" offers, yet you still own the tractor. Remember the as is condition of your machine and the fact that next spring, your machine will be that much older and still in the same condition. You are willing to take a gamble and "hold out" for a better selling price. Hope that works out for you, but I wouldn't bet the house on it.

Yes, but the OP is not a retailer, just a guy looking to sell his tractor. The market is flooded with used machines right now, just like the used car market. Price it right and it will sell. I would rather sell something for $500 less than I really wanted right now, than have to sit on it for another 6-12 mths and wind up taking that price anyway.

Paint it GREEN! But only if you want to sell it for more money. (Sorry, I must have wandered over here from the jd side.....I'll go back now.)

Good luck.

Price is important ( as well as condition ) when selling an item. I always ask a little less knowing the product is worth more and in great condition. It sells quickly and rarely do buyers ask for a lower price. If they do I tell them I would put them on the list and call if it does not sell. I prefer not to sell to this type of individual because he is the type that will be back months later with a complaint and want more for nothing therefore no return call.
Craigslist is a very good medium for selling. I have never seen so many ads wanting things for nothing. ( and then can you deliver it free also ? ) When the same ads appear week after week.... you can bet the seller feels his product is worth more than market value.

Well I re-listed the tractor again, after using it all winter for snow removal and other odd jobs. My local craigslist post generated over 30 leads in less then 2 days!! My pricing is basically the same as I was asking before the winter. What a difference 6 months makes when it seemed NOBODY was interested in this machine.

After showing the machine to 3 people, I took a deposit today, the machine (and all my attachments) will be picked up on Tuesday. I'm sure the new owner will put more then the 30 hours I put on the machine in my 2+ years of ownership.

I don't quite know what I am going to do next... I am thinking of picking up an older, cheaper machine, maybe a Kubota but I really want something with more weight this time around. I'll try hard to not walk in and buy a new machine, but that seems to always happen!!

CONGRATULATIONS!
Bet it was handy with that snow!
Like I said
Looking at the pics -
Paint the hoe and fix the seat.
You've got an excellent price if all is in good running order.
I would definitely have looked at it instead of my current ride this last spring.

I'm alway pricing machines and I know I couldn't have bought my machine recently for near what I paid for it. And I could probably sell it as I bought it for several $K more.

Anyone ever adjust the valves on a B7800? I have the service manual but I cannot find the timing mark window on the clutch housing...Any pics to point me in the right direction..The service manual is not very clear
