Difficult starting

I have a CK 25. Recent problem has developed. In the past when i would turn the key 2 red lights on dash as well as glow plug light. Most times would start without waiting for glow plug light (?pre heat) to go out as my climate is warm


Over last week when i turn key i have no lights prior to engaging starter but once I start up the glow plug light comes on for a few seconds. Along with this on a few occasions it will not start. It has fuel, it just cranks and sounds as if it wants to start but once i let go of key (disengage starter?) it shuts down.

The starting problem is intermittant. The problem with the lights not coming on before start is occuring everytime I try to start.

Any ideas??

Make sure you get power at the glow plugs both during crank and after you release the key to run position. Just connect a volt meter between the chassis or block and any glow plug. If no voltage it could be the switch or a relay. Check your schematic.

The ignition switch is a weak link, especially if it gets water or dirt in it. I replaced mine after @400 hours/6 years. Some guys have clean them and they can be disassembled but be careful. Apparently some small springs and pins like to go flying if you're not watching.

Its the old switch repair, get ahold of your dealer and demand a new switch. Do you park outside?

Everyone is correct - key switch is where to start. However there is one update you need to get while at the dealer. Get a "Black" key switch cover. They appear to be more flexible and should last longer. Just as black zip ties do over white.
