2006 John Deere 790
I'm looking on trading my 790 for a larger JD with hydro. I've found 2 4710's - one with a 460 loader and one with the 400x. Can anyone tell me the differences? This model tractor was only made for 2 years (2003 and 2004) so I assume the loader models changed at the same time.

Thanks

The 460 loader was available during the production years for the 10 series of CUT's. The 400x loader is a newer model that came on the market with the advent of the 20 series of CUT's.

So, the 400x loader is newer than the 4710 tractor.

The curved boom design is an improvement over the square boom on the 460.

I haven't looked at the loader capacities recently but given the design improvements - I'd venture that the 400X is somewhat more capable as well.

Long story - short. If the 2 tractors are comparable in condition (hours, etc.) and options (SCV's, transmission, etc.) - buy the one with the 400X.
