Hi,

I just acquired a 300 gal. diesel tank mounted on a tandem trailer. It has been in outdoor storage for a few years with a small amount of diesel in the tank. I understand the remained diesel is bad and should be drained. After that, what, if anything, should I do to the tank before I add fresh diesel? Does anyone have a recommendation as to a diesel additive for tank treatment? Any help appreciated.

I would be more concerned about water in the fuel. Water is a diesel engines fuel system worst nightmare. Best to find another means to burn the old fuel.
When you first fill it, add 10 gallons and pull it for 5 miles to stir up any contaminants Start off using an algaecide for diesel fuel. Then take a sample in a clear mason jar and hold it up to a light. If it is clear, (normal diesel color) run it. A fuel filter, water seperator on your 300 gallon tank is money well spent. Have extra fuel filters for you diesel machines on hand just in case. Take a flashlight and inspect for rust if it is s steel tank.
Just my thoughts.

We are doing essentially the same thing with a 300 gallon tank. We spoke with the owner of our bulk distributor and he said to power wash it several times and rinse thoroughly after getting rid of the old fuel then put two filters on. He is my wife's cousin, so he is going to prep it for us.
