Just went to the local Crapa to buy some RTV to seal up this new lid on my metal diesel fuel tank. Salesman walked me away from the RTV aisle and to the cork aisle, saying no RTV would survive diesel. Now my fuel sender (Guage) has cork as well, but I just wanted to make sure I am being led down the right road.

I will say use cork. We had to change the fuel sender on a tractor and I first used Permatex and even after two tries it still leaked like a sieve. I did not have any cork around at the time but used 3 layers of box board and is has not leaked a drop since. I would also worry about gasket sealant gumming up the fuel outlet.

First thing in my mind when I saw the thread was, use "cork", and everyone else says same thing.

Have a little EM series Honda generator with a split rubber gasket for fuel cap that leaked bad and cut one out of cork material and amazed how it is holding up to the new fuels.

Replaced fuel sender on L3130 after it rusted out going to need new one for the RTV1100 fuel filters with steel end caps on them are rusting and having to use Gates Barrier fuel line on everything now. The mandated B5 and now B20 now becoming widespread here is causing lots of problems.
