Dented Hood Help!

When I checked my hood I pushed down on the center. I was able to make the raised area lay flat with very little pressure. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif The metal is thin and there is no support under that area. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Something similar to this happened to a friend of mine a couple of years ago. His son pushed on the hood in the center to slam it shut after some maintenance and there was a filter wrench lying near the latch. The hood buckled across the center but I think the crease went all the way across the hood (it had a dent at each end if the crease like yours). He spent a lot of hours trying to straighten it out but he could never get it to fit properly. He eventually bought a new hood/forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif.

Ron,

Thanks for the clarification--if there isn't much support and a lot of give, I can see how it could happen. I was just having a tough time envisioning the side dents without major damage to the top portion.

Could the center have been "popped back up"? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks for all the replys, here is another pic. The tractor wasn't damaged when I bought it, I have waxed it several times and sure I would have noticed it before now. I've hit nothing nor has the hood hit anything. It's garage kept so I know now one could have done something to it without my knowledge. If you look at the attachment you can see the hood is bowed in the middle and doesn't line up with the other panels and a crease is across the hood.

Hi Viper,

I just went out and looked at my B2910, and the hood is supposed to bow up in the middle like yours does. Also your hood and side panels fit a lot better than mine do, and my hood has never been damaged. Like others have suggested, I think the crossbar caused your dents. Possibly when the loader was being removed or reattached the crossbar made contact with the hood when the loader valve was moved the wrong way or the loader slipped off the pins and dropped. If your frame is not cracked or broken there is no way that having the front end off the ground could cause those dents. If it could, mine would look like it had been run over by a bulldozer as many times as I have had the front off the ground. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

The hood is supposed to bow up in the middle when seen from the side. My 2410 has a bow in the middle and the top is rounded as well. It is exactly the way it is intended to be. Also, your panels seem to line up about as good as mine do--it is not a Lexus, it is a tractor. Your hood was dented by the cross bar of the loader. Lifting the wheels of the ground could not cause this, assuming the loader is pinned, most likely you dropped the loader on to the hood while attaching or detaching and did not notice somehow. Your loader does have kick stands does it not? You are supposed to put those down before removing the loader.
I sometimes store my loader with the tractor parked under it to save space. If I open the hood it will spring into the loader cross bar. This also could have caused the dents. In any case it was operator error.
Good luck. J

Viper, was the tractor in for service at the dealer anytime after you did your waxing? Mine was damaged at the dealer, and he called me to tell me about it. I wouldn't have noticed it immediately if I hadn't been looking for it. (luckily he's an honest guy). As stated earlier, mine was dented like that when the tech didn't put down the support arms while taking off the loader. in terms of dent repair I'd take a close look at the paint in the dents. On mine it was "cracked" and started to flake off "in" the dent within a month.

Regards,
Dave
