Dented Hood Help!

This is new. I have seen the loaders not fastened in right and fall out before and leave a crease across the hoods.

I have never taken the loader off mine, but I have lifted the front wheels dozens of times and not dented the hood on the way back down. I really wonder if it is possible that the hood or the side panels were not firmly latched in place and moved, causing the hood to buckle. I can't imagine the frame being broken and causing the flex, you'd notice other signs of trouble in other parts of the tractor if the frame was bent.

Viper....Am I mistaken or dosen't the location of the dents look as if they were caused by the hood slamming hard against the front grill guard when opened????????????? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Those dents could not have anything to do with rasing the front wheels off the ground, that is a normal thing to do and we all do it all the time. The dents are caused by either 1) attempting to remove the loader and forgetting to put the kickstands down, 2) the hood some how not being properly adjusted and slamming down such that the sudden stop creased the hood---not likely, 3) not having reinstalled
the pins in the loader arms and the loader falling out of the arms.
Once I forgot to put the kickstands down and put the loader lever to down--as to lift the wheels which when the pins removed lifts the loader frame out of the arms. The loader cross brace nearly hit my hood but with brute force and quickness on my part I caught it--yelled bloody murder for my wife who came to me and my tractors rescue. If it had hit I think the hood would have dents similar to those though they do seem a bit forward I where I might expect them.

Another possibility--they were already there when you bought it and your dealer knew that was the case and therefore does not want to hear from you---goodluck. Seems that those would be easy to fix but if that is damage from improper use then it is your problem, if it was damage from the dealer--he owes you a new hood. J

I have had my 2910 for over 3 years with no dents like you show in the pictures. I went out and looked at my tractor to see how that could happen.

It does look like the cross bar made the dents. Have you looked at the bottom of the cross bar to see if there are any scratches in the paint.

Checked the position of the dents in your hood to the length of the hoses on my FEL, The dents are just beyond what my hoses would allow the loader to be removed with the hoses on. I did break off a hydraulic fitting while installing the FEL about the second time I tried it. I was backing away from FEL and did not watch how far I had moved back. Cross bar hit one of the fittings and broke it off. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Did you have your FEL stored an on hard surface? If you had it stored on soft ground the FEL could have dropped down and made the bar come close to hood to dent the hood.

If the bucket was rolled back during its removal the bar could also come very close to the hood.

The one thing I worry about when using the FEL is raising it all the way up and some thing falling out of the bucket and falling on the hood. So far all the things that have fallen have missed the hood. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

My 2910 does have some scratches on it and at times a lot of dirt. No dents yet. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif I would be just as upset as you if a dent showed up that I had no idea where it came from. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I think Ron is really on to something here. Here is what I think happened.

1) Hood was damaged by dealer while installing loader
2) He did'nt notice or kept quiet about it
3) You (viper) were'nt looking for dents, so you did'nt notice them.
4) Your loader was used to lift the tractor off the ground for the first time and this caused the components to settle in and adjust. (many folks with a NewHolland know how their brackets move) This adjustment made the noise.
5) When you heard the noise, you looked for the source and found the dents.

This is just a theory, but I would check for signs of paint damage or scrapes on the underside of that cross bar.

I don't think that viper is so senile or poor sighted that he wouldn't notice this long before 28 hours. If it happened the way he has said, then the external cause has yet to be found, but it will be explained how at some time in the future..... Just like the crop circles!!!!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I don't think viper is senile or poor sighted. But, I believe he could have not noticed these dents if he was not looking for them. Recently, I noticed that the windshield molding seal was loose on my van. One of my co-workers said that he had noticed it one day this past summer. The point is, I was'nt looking for a problem so I did'nt see one.

I don't own a Kubota, but from one of the angles, it looks like the hood is slightly rounded. If that is the case, could the cross bar have made the dents on the sides of the hood without denting the top of the hood? The top looks unharmed.

As far as the dealer doing it--nothing would surprise me, however that's a part of the tractor that you look at all the time when doing loader work. Those dents are not impossible to overlook, but it seems unlikely to me.

Keep us posted Viper--it's an interesting issue and I agree with not replacing/fixing until you are sure of the cause.

Good Luck

Bob

viper,
You stated that you had the loader off of the tractor. When you park the tractor do you park in under the loader frame. The photos look like the hood was opened against the loader cross member. If you were parked under the loader, but not pulled all the way under, than the hood will hit about were the dents are. Did you try to lift the hood to check the oil or anything else when parked this way? (if you were parked this way)
