Anyone know of anyone that has paid such fines....or any fines for that matter ?

I know another fellow that calls it partisan political harassment when he is arrested for violating the law. Maybe a person could also try that when the EPA comes knocking on the door.

That's right.

And I have to keep reminding myself that just because the politicians make stupid laws that either overstate or completely miss the point, doesn't mean that there isn't a problem.

It just means that the politicians didn't get the solution right. The problem is still there.

There have been several companies bankrupted by outrageous fines and I do believe a few individuals have jailed. A simple google search shows several.

No, they have been larger companies that are involved in interstate travel and they have done a lot of deletes. I do not know of any single individuals that have gotten hit by the EPA. Now, removing it, getting in a bind with the dealer and what not there is a lot of that. EPA messing with single individual sorry don't see it. I am sure there is some example of somebody that knew somebody that got caught.

I know a lot of people that have done deletes and have not heard of them getting hassled by the EPA.

Its about the money the EPA goes after deep pockets/big fines.

All this will get interesting since the Supreme Court overturned Chevron. I expect the courts and congress to become busy places when the agencies can not "interpret" vaguely written laws and need a court to validate their opinion.

I don’t know of a state that would title the vehicle. If you know of one post it.

There is no emission testing in many areas of the county... with no testing and no inspection how would they know? Yes it is against Federal Law and you may have the EPA or FBI after you IF they know.

No safety, emissions, or VIN inspections at all​

• South Dakota
• Washington

Even your home state (my former) only has emission testing annually for 19/100 counties. The other 81 counties to not have emission testing at all.
Then there is this from the NC DMV below, guess you title that truck in NC since diesels are exempt from emission testing.

Exemptions​

Vehicles are exempt from emissions inspections under the following conditions:

• Some light-duty vehicles less than 3 years old or have fewer than 70,000 miles
• Vehicle is 20 years old or older
• Diesel-operated
• Registered as a farm vehicle

AND If you spent more than $200 to fix an emission failure you will get a waiver from the DMV to register your vehicle.
