After the tire shop replaced the inner tube in my 16.9-30 tire that I carried in to them on a trailer, they filled it with tap water and one gallon of red antifreeze. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get any help at home to unload the tire, so I drained the fluid by removing the outer half of the valve stem and placed a 1/4” tube inside and let the ballast siphone overnight. The next morning, the tire wouldn’t hold air because of a major leak at the valve stem. What would cause this in a brand new inner tube?

I’ve seen sharp edges around the hole in the wheel where the valve stems comes out.

Don't the liquid valve stems have an o-ring the seals them? Might the o-ring be damaged or missing?

You mean the internal to the valve stem itself? The core of the valve itself sometimes needs to be tightened. We usually unscrew them to put liquids in or out, right? If it is not screwed in tight enough to seal the valve body in, it can leak around that? You can also put in a new valve, if damaged

decent details here >

It’s leaking from the base underneath the nut, as if the vulcanization failed from where the outside of the metal part is vulcanized to the rubber part.

Personally, I think the inner tube was defective, but no way to prove it since they cut it in half to take it out before charging me to install another one. Tube is Gateway from Korea.

Was the valve at the top or bottom when you drained it?

It was lying flat on a trailer with the valve stem facing up.

Sometimes a tube is a bit undersized and stretches some to fill the tire. If you leak it down it trys to contract. Over time air is drawn in between the shrinking tube and tire. When you blow it back up that "bubble" is caught and has to leak out. THAT is probably what you are seeing. Try adding more and more air. Should finally stabilize if there isnt a true tube leak.
