I recently got a JD 4500 with the 460 loader. I pushed the joystick all the way forward and felt the notch which I assume is the float position... it is supposed to lock in the float position, correct? Mine doesn't seem to want to stay in the forward position. Any ideas?

Yes, it should stay forwards in the float mode. Start with the linkages and make sure everything is well lubricated and free from excesses slop. I guess is that its not going completely into float and that's whey it popping out.

If the above does not fix the problem, you may have to go into the cans on the bottom of the valve and inspect the spool for rust, crud, etc.

There are little springs and steel balls that fall into a groove to activate the detent.

When all cleaned up, lube well and put everything back together.

The drain hole in can should be at the bottom.

Thanks... I will check it out. Tractor has very low hours and was garage kept, so hopefully it shouldn't be too bad.
