Replaced 2 u joints on pto shaft John Deere 1026 for 54d drive over deck . Can’t get shaft on mower deck to fully engage pto shaft. Deck needs to move 1 -2 inches rearward and is fully forward in front bracket. Any thoughts?

Is there a detent button that’s sticking? Usually it’s pushed to release the shaft and simply retracts on an internal ramp when installing…

Not sure I understand, but from your #2702 pic, looks to me that the plate B needs to pivot clockwise to allow C to move into position, then plate B will hold it in place.
However plate B cannot rotate with the pin or rod A in the way. Ignore if I'm off track here.
