Keeps me busy waiting for the warmer weather and fields to dry off.

No I was short and fat and had 15/15 vision. Truthfully, we may well have crossed paths but who knows.
Yes, I know the place you mention and yes it is true or at least was true that virtually no one lived in Loving county thus the lowest population density. No, I did not work for Amoco though they were a competitor in many areas I worked and I visited their offices a few times I remember. Those were the good old days. I miss Houston sometimes. Nah, onward and upward.

I thought everyone missed Houston, if at all possible./w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

In Texas all those oil and gas leases have to go through a title company and be filed of record in the county courthouse. All those "colored" properties mighta just happened in his car before he rang your door. To get the straight scoop - go to the courthouse and ask to see what's been filed. Or better yet - get someone who does that a lot to do it for you. They would have a site they go to for checking that stuff. Sometimes there are "prospectors" that go out and get as many people as they can in an area then sell the "block" of properties to the drillers for a profit and the agreement they signed with you may or may not continue with the new owners of your lease. ---- Lawyer time fer sure before signing anything ------ My wife has done this stuff for a living for over 20 years and can tell some real horror stories of 'lil people (she calls 'em) getting taken by the big boys.
be ver-r-ry careful - it could cost you the value of your property

Five or six of the colored properties, I know for a fact have signed. But, I can check the county clerks office to be sure. From talking to some of the farmers, the leases have come and gone over the years. They feel it helps them pay the taxes, and if they actualy drill, then there is a posible pay-off. I doubt that my property is where they want to put the first well. I can always wait and see what happens on that first one.

Here are some photos to better describe what the construction sites, and the finished product, look like.

First, here's one under construction now...

In the distance, you can see a second well being drilled.

Muhammad,

Thanks for all the pictures. It really helps understand what they do. I am going to drive by the wells this coming weekend, too.

Muhammad,

That slab looks like it has keyways in it around the perimeter. Any idea what they're for? Additional equipment? Pole Barn?

Nope, nothing else other than what's in the photo... don't know about the setup really, just what I can see looking at it.

/ Deep Gas Wells #34
Hmmm, now I'm really wondering why those keyways are in there. Maybe something has to lock onto the slab during contruction. Crane? Seems I've seen similar keyways cut, but I can't remember where.

Interesting article. I do know there is a salt mine about 45 minutes to the Northwest. The mine goes under one of the finger lakes. Now that would be a major disaster!

It has made it through this forum once before, but it's so cool I'll resurrect it. There was a Disappearing Lake! in Louisiana, caused by drilling into a mine through a lake bed. Interesting story.

John,

If you're just north of Newark Valley (Berkshire?), then you know this area well, I'm assuming. You can see the drilling rig from the new bridge that connects Apalachin to Campville. Best at night, when its lit up. I believe this rig is located off of Jewett Hill road, but once you spot it, you could find it by driving south on Pennsylvania Ave in Apalachin, turning right on Barton Road, and keeping you eyes peeled. I'm sure you could get the exact location by asking a few people. If it were me, since its just a short drive from your house, I'd take a look/w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif.

I PM'd John the exact location... you can see it at night from Vestal. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I'm in the town of Newark Valley, about 3-4miles north from the village. I do believe the tract of land that they are interested in, goes into the town of Berkshire. The directions I received from Muhammed are very clear and even though I haven't been down those particular roads in some time, it should be an easy matter to find the wells. I should be able to go see them next weekend.

I wasn't aware that they were such a specticle in the valley. Most of my travels between Owego and Binghamton has been done in the daytime, and they just didn't catch my eye. Maybe it has to do with it being west to east travel, ie leaving work to go purchase something in the triple cities. My return route home, is usually 26 north to 38B.

Doc:

There have also been earthquakes in the Denver area related to waste water injection which has since been discontinued. Parts of the California area have also had approximetly 7 ft. of substinence attributed to the withdrawlall of hydrocarbon fluids.
