I think they are too slow. I would be a lot more content if they topped out at 40mph. People with larger acreages and farms here and there would benefit much more with higher ground speeds.

How are these units in mud? I had someone tell me they're underpowered and terrible in mud. The guy said he can't hardly spin his wheels to get out of mud?
You must be young.LOL.Yes the Kubota 900-1100 RTV are slower but you will NOT find a better workhorse.I put a set (4)of GBC 8 ply grimreapers on my 2006 RTV 900 and it handles the mud & snow very well.Low range gear is your friend in the mud.

I don't need to go 60mph, but if I need to run across 400 acres and then jump to another farm 5 miles down the road and run 150 acres then yeah I want to go faster than 25.

I even looked at the Bobcats, but they're only 30mph.

I am retired so I go a little slower.I no longer have the NEED for SPEED.LOL.

I don't want to have a racing machine, but I want to be the most efficient I can be. Salesman still hasn't got back to me on my quote yet anyway.

Who ever told you that doesn't know what he is talking about. (Or did he not know about 4wd and/or the diff lock?

Mud? I've been doing bridle trail maintenance in a muddy state park. One time, a 500 foot section of the trail was under water. I made it through just fine. I've been through sloppy mud up to the axle and made it through. I have a winch on mine but it is very rarely used.

His Bota is older so I dunno? He farms a few thousand acres so I take his word on machinery, but not sure how old his bota is. Maybe they've came a long ways since his?

I've had the RTV 900 for 2 1/2 months. It was a used 2011 with 75 hours on her. Only put 30 hours on it, but still can't get over how useful it is. I don't care about speed, its not like I need to go full tilt around the farm. Whichever you decide on, I'm sure you'll find it as a valuable tool.

So assuming your 400 acres is rectangular and about a mile long (for easy figuring) . So at 25 MPH you would get there in about 2.4, and at 40MPH in 1.5 minutes. So what is so urgent that you have to save 1 minute per mile of travel. Learn to slow down and look at your crops as you go by (smell the roses as they say).

Sure if you are trail riding and going all out for 8-10 hours then 40 MPH might well be needed to keep up with the pack, but an RTV is not primarily a trail riding machine although it will do fine for that , just takes a little longer. Think of them as a tractor with a box bed on the back. NOT MANY tractors will go 40 MPH ,most about 25 tops, so do you need your farm machine to travel 40 MPH or will 25 MPH get you there quick enough. For me the RTV goes plenty fast enough for all my farm work.

I guess my biggest concern is the functionality of the four wheel drive as it will be more difficult to be sure it operates properly. most everything else is pretty easy to assess.

Your thoughts and comments are appreciated.
Michael
I have used a floor jack to check four wheel drive. Raise the rear and the front should pull it.

No experience with Kubota UTV's, I had two Bobcat 2200 models, one gas, one diesel. Now we have this one that doesn't use gas or diesel: http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/atvs-utility-vehicles/287792-electric-polaris-ranger.html

I've had my new 2014 RTV-X900 for 2 months now. The 'stuck shifter' problem has me about ready to ship machine back to Japan. Nothing seems to help and it's getting worse. When the shifter becomes stuck in gear, only shutting off engine will free it up.

I'm having another conversation with the dealer tomorrow.
