Recently bought a 1970 1200 David Brown Case tractor for a bargain. It had been sitting a few years, so I have changed all the fluid and filters and did a general clean up. Just a touch of the stater and it purrs like a kitten. The remote hydraulics work, but the 3 point is not lifting. I have a hydraulics manual for the tractor and am going to start the trouble shooting process. The bar lifted once on its own while driving, and then a few runs later slowly lowered on its own. In the manual, I am a little confused of which hydraulic fluid to use. I just used a generic tractor grade hydraulic fluid.

I had an old Nuffield for decades. Similar origins to David Brown.

Usually, there is a way to switch hydraulics from say a loader to the 3 pt. It cannot run both at the same time.

On the Nufffield, it was a lever along side the one to raise or lower the 3 pt.

Thanks, this tractor is replacing my Nuffield 1060. I was just out messing with it. With the selectomatic cover off I knocked things around and got it to raise one time by applying back and forth pressure on the remotes, maybe in doing so bled the system a bit. But now she won’t go down, it is putting a load on but not moving. Because it sat and the fluid that came out was rusty and crappy, was hoping it just needed a soaking and then a back and forth flow to free up any stuck valves and passages.

I also have a brand new Nuffield 1060 rebuild kit, with cylinder sleeves, gaskets and bearings if anyone is interested. Was going to rebuild it, but with all the old farmers getting out of the business, the prices really dropped on old tractors. $2600 for this one was cheaper than my time and labour rebuilding the Nuffield.
