I bought a 2018 Chev Silverado, I was going to pay cash, but they said if I get a loan I can save $1000, wait two months then pay it off. I had a freeze on the 3 credit bureaus, so they wanted
me to open up Experian. I have Lifelock, while we were doing my loan I got an alert from Lifelock that someone had accessed my credit at one of the credit bureaus.

So it worked like it should.

Nothing is free. What info is IT gathering and passing along to who knows who?

I signed up for HBO Max, was free to me threw my cell provider. I even watched that horrific 1985 Wonder Woman movie. Worst movie of the year.

The next day I opened FB to find an ad for HBO Max and the 1985 Wonder Woman as the previewed film. First time I have seen that ad. That kinda stuff happens often. Which is why soon I’ll delete my FB account which is unfortunate because the FB groups are full of helpful folks about lots of info. Just don’t like them collecting all that data. Not sure what all they are collecting.

After watching the latest videos of Facebook and Twitter CEO in court I知 backing away from FB. I caught on to the ad targeting long ago, what was really spooky in the last year or two, was when I had a conversation in person about a particular product like a snow blower, Makita 36v chainsaw etc etc and I would then get ads on FB within a day or so of that same product, never have seen that ad before.

Apple collects every punch I make on my phone under the é„*nalytics Data tab in settings: Privacy.

Single line events and pages and pages of information. I have been aware of this since 2014 when I got my second smartphone IPhone 4s. Since then the first thing I do is: in settings, turn off the sharing data, turn off cookies etc etc.

IOS-14 has a setting on it under 撤rivacy called 典racking what that does is give apps permission to ask for your permission to track you and data mine. By turning that off supposedly the app can稚 see your info anymore. FaceBook says by Apple doing this they stand to lose 2 BILLION in revenue, this one setting will cut their ad tracking by 50% on iPhone users.

I am only on FB and TractorByNet but have many 擢ree apps. With Zuckerberg痴 basic admittance of tracking folks, communicating with Google and Twitter on censorship, I値l likely leave FB. Have only had a FB account since 2015. Although I really liked their tractor groups and sold a lot on FB marketplace.

So how much is enough for you not to do business, with that company because they have been getting wealthy off your personal data you didn稚 give them permission to? Is this a 4th amendment violation?

I have seen with my own eyes, Credit Card companies (can稚 say who) openly talking about data mining computers and phones, not sure how many other apps do.

I still remember when the Amazon痴 Alexa was listening when it wasn稚 supposed to be and sent a message out on behalf of it痴 unaware owners.

Even logging in a website makes you vulnerable to data mining.

Run it through a transparent SSL proxy and play man-in-the-middle. Look at all the packets and connections. Start using DNS cache poisoning on the tracking sites and javascript and see when the website breaks. Tell us your conclusions/findings.

iOS web browsers finally are able to view/run most web sites these days so from that perspective there is no benefit to running an "app" to view a website.

I don't know if this accomplishes what you guys are talking about but I noticed on my phone that if FB was removed, like as in not an app then I got about a day extra out of the battery. So now if I use FB on my phone I go in through my browser. Yes I get reminded lots that I should install the app but no thanks FB. You just invade to much of my space. I also don't use Messenger on my phone for the same reasons. People can use What's App if they want to see my face!

I happened upon this video and watched most of it, very telling stuff. I used to be for technology but I’m quickly seeing tech as a negative vs a positive in at least the surveillance part of tech.

Most folks have old/obsolete or replaced cell phones handy - if you still want to use FB (blech) than create a throwaway email account for it and only use that device to access those privacy eliminating apps. Don't use the phone that you use daily.

^^^^^ Yes this. In September of 2017, Equifax announced a data breach that exposed the personal information of 147 million people.

I'm still waiting for my "Settlement". I use Duck Duck Go as my default search engine, who supposedly don't track me. Firefox for my web browser, and I like their privacy blocker apps. They seem to be working well. I don't like Google, at all... I also have most the apps on my Android phone "ask for permission" or turned off.

I have been considering subscribing to a paid VPN service. I have been looking at different services and reviewing them and have narrowed the candidates down to expressvpn and nordvpn. I am leaning toward nordvpn. Are any of you using either of these two VPN services? If so would you mind sharing your experiences with them?

I have Nord VPN. it works fine on my iPhone but not so well on my iMac. I have to ask my son to get it working every time he comes over. Now I understand why old people are hesitant to get new things because all they do is make your life difficult.

Also Nord will sometimes interfere with phone apps like the one to do online banking at the credit union.

Other than that it works great, I guess.

I'm using nord. It doesn't seem to have a measurable impact on the speed. It has helped with some pop up ads. The price is pretty reasonable if you go with a year at a clip.
I did have an odd issue renewing, it was griping about the credit card. I tried again an hour later without issue.
I like that they readily share their privacy auditing.
