I think I'd be looking for a heavy duty box blade or roll over blade and torch what's not needed off

something like this can be found on Craigslist and such

I was thinking box blade w/scarifiers too... and just tilt up all the way and drop the scarifiers to max depth. I just bought a used box blade and thinking that is what I would do. A box blade if you can get the depth you need, would be a far more versatile tool in my opinion.

I've got a ballast-roller with spiked 'bands' to aerate my ground.

if you're just wanting to 'aerate' that's typically just poking holes, so one of the rollers with spikes would do that fine. If you want a bit bigger hole, get one with tubes that will pull plugs out will do what you want. A scarifier or box blade with the scarifiers lowered is going to really tear up the ground, if I was going to that extreme, I'd just use a disk harrow.....

do you need a box blade? Buy one with scarifiers. If you already have a box blade sell it and buy a new one.

you can probably buy the teeth from EA and make your own.
