hi ally but what are firebreaks?

I made the Ford Courier alternator conversion today on my MTE2000D. I could have used a slightly shorter belt but ended up making a 2" extension to the top bracket. Electrical was a direct plug in. The courier alt was even a Mitsubishi product...go figure. I am probably most pleased with the increase in charging power, old one was putting out 13 amps ( when it worked) new one is 35. After moving some dirt for about 1/2 hr. I could already tell the old beast was cranking much faster. Alternator was $59.00 and the core charge was $2.80 ( yep, $2.80 can you believe it?).
Anyway, I would highly recommend this update to everyone and I even recall reading an old post on the Yanmar forum about this same conversion for some of their models.

does an 1850 have a 4 cyl or a 2 cyl? I have a bigger model that has a 4 banger diesel and was wondering if the mod would work on mine?:D

My D1850fd is a four cylinder. If I remember correctly it is a K4a. 1.03 liters. Runs like a striped fox. Need to build a ROPS for these hilly woods(scary).

I happen to have an old '71 Ford Courier with a 2.3l four banger just settin around. I think I'll try that swap with the alternater. A winch on the front would be great.

Sure wish I had some manuals that matched up.
