Cypress patio stain

An oil based stain will penetrate better. Most of the stains at the big box stores are water based. Watch out for the minwax, most I've seen are only interior use. Had a customer once that used minwax on their deck, and was all pissed cause it didn't last, and wanted us to check the batch codes to see if maybe it was a bad batch, after finding out where they used it, I told them hey this is only for inside. That really made them upset, and said no it's not. Then I showed them on the can where it says it. Read the label, don't trust the person selling it to you.
Anyways I would recommend an oil based product.

Is it best to use a oil base or water base stain. I would like a stain that would penetrate into the wood. I’ve got some homedepot Behr

Oil based is going to give you better results.

Behr used to be a quality brand, but then never really recovered from the Federal mandate on how they have to make the paint to stop global warming. I put it in the same catagory as Olympic and Walmart paints.

Minwax is my favorite stain for interior projects. Sadly, Home Depot doesn't carry it anymore, so I have to go to Lowes to get it, and the Lowes in Tyler, where I live, is a pain.

If you are not comfortable with Sherwin Williams or the brands that they sell at Kelly More, then some of the log cabin stains are very good. I'm not familiar with the top brands, but people on here have talked about them and what they have used with good results. It might be worth searching for that on here.
