Cutter deck break

Hi All,
All of a sudden the cutter break has engaged and won't release. If I try and start the blades it won't engage or more specific it engages but the break prevents them from spinning and starts to smoke.
I can't seem to find a reason for the break to be active. Any insight would be great or things to check.

Is there a brake stop or do you have a electromagnet clutch that is acting up?

Sounds like some linkage came loose. Part of the blade engagement process should release the brake also. I suspect the lever(rod) that releases the brake broke or came off one end.
