greetings all, i have been using this forum for months, but i never needed to post untill now. most of my questions were already answered in other posts.

but anyhow

i recently came across a cub AGS 2150

the machine was garage kept since new and i thought "wow what a deal"

i was told it just needed a starter, so i get the tractor, went ahead put down a pot full of money for a new starter, and.........nothing

the tractor will key over and all the dash and front lights come on but it will not crank.

i checked the safety switch under the seat and there is 2 wires coming out of a hole. look like they shouls be attached to the relay under the seat

i put terminal ends on the wires and push them on. the tractor still will not crank.

i have been searching all over the net for reasons or solutions, but have found nothing that will help. so i am posting here to see if you all can help me out. at the moment i dont have any cash to tote it off to the repair shop and i would like to do it myself if i can

any help would be great

Mike

Check the safety switch for the PTO as well, and there may even be one for the parking brake.

Gotta start simple with this stuff. Are you 100% sure you've got a fully charged battery and the battery terminals/wiring is OK? The dash will light up fine on less than a fully charged battery. Can you jump directly to the starter lugs and get the starter to crank the engine over? Like CCinCT says, there's an interlock that dumps power to the starter if the PTO is engaged. You also need to be in the seat with the P-brake pedal mashed or P-brake lock on to allow power to go to the starter.

would anyone happpen to have or know a place online to get a wiring diagram for this 2150?

as you can tell this is my first cub, i'll admit i was into my john deeres but the more i tinker with this i'm starting to like it. at least there seems to be actual room to work on items

How do you get the wiring diagrams off that site?

Diesel - go to the link... then scroll left to right. Spaced out quite a bit are 3 columns - the last one being a series of hot links for that particular model's wiring...

ok so far this what i have checked

Battery is at full charge

tested the relays and ignition switch

tested the starter

i can get the starter to spin if i put a screwdriver between the two posts on the solenoid

it wont turn the tractor over just spins, and its a new starter

only switch i couldnt test is the one under the seat, not real sure how to test it.

any more ideas?

Sounds like your starter is bad. When you jump it like that you are bypassing all the safety switches. If the engine isn't turning over, then either the bendix isn't coming out of the starter, the bendix teeth are stripped, or the teeth on the flywheel are stripped (HIGHLY unlikely).

any more ideas?

If you are not getting enough amperage to the starter it will just spin... you will need full current to the starter to engage the bendix. Check all connections pos and ground! Load test the battery with a battery tester!

If for some reason you have the battery hooked up backwards it will spin the starter backwards and the bendix will not engage...

To test switches use a volt ohm meter... ohms scale and check for continuity on and off. You will have ohms or no ohms...

ok i put a jump wire in for the seat switch, i cut out the brake switch and wired those all together. and i took out the pto relay and jump with a small wire. the solenoid ontop of the starter has the red power wire from the battery, the blue wire in pluged into the stem, and the battery ground wire is bolted to the block. now still nothing, i know the pto switch works, because it clicked the pto shaft off and on, before i popped the fuse

i took pictures for you to see but i am not sure how to get them up on here

i tell ya, i am about ready to put the wheels back on, and roll it over the bank. i am trying to convince the wife to let me just take it to a shop but not having to much luck there. she keeps telling me i have the deere to run...... females they just dont get it

A volt ohm meter and a test light would have been my first choice before cutting wires... sounds like you are doing more guessing than actual testing.

yes the battery is fine. the test light idea was fine, the seat switch was torn apart when i got the tractor, and i pulled the brake switch out after it did not test, once under the tractor i seen it was being pushed in, but i tested it anyhow. i just ordered one of those off ebay. so i figured until it got here i would try this way. always have solder and shrink tubes!
