Egon,

Thanks for the pictures. Last year or so, it was your pics of your attachment that made me buy mine!!!!

First Pic.

Last night I cut out the MDF and plywood for the frame, then assembled it.

Second Pic.

This morning I thought about the drawer size and tore it apart to change it. The problem was that when I measured how wide the drawer was going to be with three drawers, I found out that the paper cutter wouldn't fit.

I have a Riged planer that I bought at Home Depot a few years ago. Mostly it sits around and takes up room, but today I put it to work!!!

The wood is very rough cut with the chain saw and it's thickness varies from about 1 3/8 inches to 1 3/4 inches. I took each board and cut it down to 1 inch to find the best side for the top of the coffee table.

Than I planed it down to 3/4 inches working on the best grain that I liked.

Pics are of me feeding the wood into the planer.

Here's a few pics of what the grain looks like in the wood after planing.

Thanks for the pics. I was wondering where you were headed with the table. Now I can see the direction, big drawers.

Glad to see the hearing protection with the planer.

You mean some one actully reads what I post!!:D

Just a note; extended infeed and out feed tables make the planer work easier. A pic. of mine attached. It's not pretty.

First Pic.

I put the drawers together this morning and got them to fit. That's always a challenge for me!!! hahaha

The drawer fronts are just MDF cut to fit and blend in.

Second Pic.

I planed all my boards down to 3/4 inches. Now I have to cut them square. To do this I screw the boards down to a piece of 3/4 inch plywood that I cut to just a few inches longer than the boards. Then I ran it throught the table saw to get one good straight side. Then it's easy to get the other side cut.

Third Pic.

I used my biscuit joiner to hold the boards together for the top, than glued and clamped. Now it's drying, but boy does it look GOOD!!!!

Fourth Pic.

Steph tested the scraps to see what shade of stain she wanted for the top and legs. The body of the table will be black.

Thanks,
Eddie

Hey Scotty,

The grain really is amazing. Here's a few pics after sanding with 100 grit paper. I still have to build the bracket to mount the top to the table, then I'll finish sand it, stain and seal. I'm very exited about what it will look like finished!!!
