I am building a splitter and I have a 13hp motor, 22 gpm pump and a 5" cylinder. All my ports off the detent valve are 3/4", the pump has 1" ports. I looked at older threads here and I came up with 1 1/2" suction hose and 3/4" hose for everything else. If I use 1 1/2" hose and I use an adapter to go from 1" to 1 1/2" pipe did I not just defeat using larger hose? Can I use standard pipe fittings for the suction side? :confused2:

All your hose and fittings should be 1 1/2 in from the tank to the pump suction port.

Not really. You can't realistically do anything about the 1" pump inlet but going to a larger 1 1/2" hose from the tank to the pump will have less restriction to flow than if you went with 1" hose all the way. Match the tank outlet to the hose size if at all possible and yes, you can use standard pipe fittings on the suction side only.
