Good post sir.

The issue we face is we do not have 50 years to "solve" this. Currently our peak is estimated to be in a few weeks.

I have no idea how to structure a "good" test. I presume the design is different for a disease like cancer, where a patient rarely recovers without some type of treatment, and this virus that can be survived without intervention, and that varies in impact from a mild flu to death.

In a previous post, I said I would take my chances if I was dying and "roll the dice". If there is more than one treatment option, I will trust men like you to advise me of the best course of treatment. If there are no options, and I need to be a guinea pig for testing, I am OK with that. The "hope" that the current "fad" gives us is that it may work...and it will not kill us. In the worst case, Covid-19 or the defense reaction (cytokine storm} will kill many of those with severe cases within days. Most of us are ignorant...maybe we are being fooled...but we are not aware of any other options.

Actually it would be much faster to do coronavirus trials than cancer trials. Many more patients and much faster clinical course. I have no specific knowledge but I’m almost certain there are multiple well designed trials underway now. And, you’re gonna hear about them first via NEJM or Lancet or from Fauci, not YouTube.

Cytokine “storm” is probably the most important target. Coronavirus doesn’t seem to grow uncontrollably and destroy lung tissue directly. It’s more likely that it just triggers a host reaction (cytokine storm) that is much more severe in some people than others. Same phenomenon is seen with other infectious diseases. We don’t know enough about host immune genetics yet to predict which patients are at highest risk and we don’t have any really effective therapies yet either.

Cytokine storm is kinda like what might happen if you called the fire department to put out a fire in your basement and their response was to fill the basement with water, drowning anyone there.

Someone described the solution to find a treatment, "Chasing after a wagon of hay rolling down a hill, and you're trying to find the needle in that moving haystack."

I said it before. Humans have mostly existed in a sea of lies.

I am becoming as disturbed by the inequality (not that I believed equality existed) going on around me, as much as the virus. Rich people and their children hunkered down in their vacation homes while the poor folks (and their kids) are stocking shelves, manning the tills at the Grocery store and gas stations.

At the church I attend, we have a lot of good people. Many are not critical thinkers. There is a huge tendency to å*µroup think? There is also a high degree of trust in the pastor and a desire to conform. They are called sheep for a reason.

I suspect a number of those choir members had second thoughts about attending the function but did not have the courage to bow out.

It bothers me when some say, 的t is in God痴 hands and God痴 will?...when God has not directed man痴 choices.

So true. Even us Northerners know about Picketts Charge...there’s so many examples of people marching into their certain death because everybody else is doing it (peer pressure) or obedience to some (perceived) authority, or a belief their sacrifice will be worthwhile.
I think this case is a deadly mixture of ignorance, wanting normalcy when that world doesn’t exist anymore, and faith.

I have to think of all those Jolly young men doing their part and going off to participate in the wonderful adventure of trench warfare in WW1. While the leaders stayed in their palaces eating champagne and lobster.

Welcome to the American reality of today. The Walton family sits home and rakes in a $100 million dollars a day, and somehow can't afford decent wages or healthcare for their workers.

I agree with you and Shooterdon. One has to wonder, does the mule follow the carrot, or try to escape the whip?

Well why don't you all give up your worldly possessions and give it all to a worthy charity?

Because of the "anyone richer than me is bad syndrome"?

Recognising ones own hypocracy is always a step in the right direction. But I have to wonder then who is "worse". Those that recognise it and choose not to make ammends, or those that are still blind to it.

No way... I worked my butt off for everything I have, with no handouts from anyone; and no corporate welfare, either. I help by hiring a man to do a job and treat him fairly, with respect, and pay way above average wages. That's where my contribution ends.

As I glean from sources here and on the news what seems to be needed to kill the virus is to break down the lipid envelope. Apparently that's what zinc does when taken in doses ~10x the MDRs. Topical alcohol needs the much higher percentage than booze except maybe Everclear, soap and water needs the 20 seconds but I can usually spare 30, and bleach always was our friend when properly diluted and not splashed around willy-nilly.

I'm thinking a bucket of bleach and water for a dip for my hands. Seem to remember sterilizing a lot of milk equipment in my first tax paying job on a dairy farm, made 50 cents an hour.

And the hay is on fire
