We haven’t seen any speed slowdown but were in the sticks up here

Mine speed is abysmal... but it works.

UP 0.73 Mbps
Down 0.15 Mbps

But still faster than my 1200 baud modem!

I brought an old anesthesia machine home for the metal and drawers... it has just been sitting in the corner of the shop as more of a conversation piece...

Might be time to plug it in... still has the E Oxygen and E Air tanks... if worse comes to worse I do have two full H welding Oxygen tanks... the same supplier that fills my welding tanks also supplies all the veterinary clinics from the same line.

I decided to stay off the forums and social media all day. It worked...until I came back here tonight. Now I'm back to assuming the world is basically ending. I need to be lose the technology.

My daughter was telling me about a trip to Dollar General. Two brothers was looking for dog food and the younger one was heard say, Jack don't take all day just grab one since the world is coming to an end anyway.

The video below thinks we are over reacting.

A Medical Worker Describes Terrifying Lung Failure From COVID-19 — Even in His Young Patients — ProPublica

This does not say how many live but that about a 1/3 of COVID-19 patients will need one. The picture painted is itself painful.
I am curious about that story because the daily announcements of how many have died from this in Louisiana have mostly been older (70+) people who were residents of a nursing home. The few who it says have passed that were younger (40s or 50s) have all said that they had preexisting conditions (which matches what I have seen reported elsewhere in the world).
It would be nice to be able to verify story's report of "many" younger people (40s and 50s) without preexisting conditions suddenly needing to be put on a ventilator.
From the story:
Since last week, he’s been running ventilators for the sickest COVID-19 patients. Many are relatively young, in their 40s and 50s, and have minimal, if any, preexisting conditions in their charts. He is overwhelmed, stunned by the manifestation of the infection, both its speed and intensity. The ICU where he works has essentially become a coronavirus unit. He estimates that his hospital has admitted dozens of confirmed or presumptive coronavirus patients. About a third have ended up on ventilators.

Aaron, if our person were still there maybe SHE would have been the one telling or not telling.

This is not about finding fault, just realizing how a staffing oops might have cost us a head start. :(

(I keep reading/watching articles/videos linked in this thread.)

Had they been there, would they have been told the truth? 99.999% certain that the answer is no.

The premise of your question seems to indicate either an unfamiliarity with the content of the article or a political agenda ... or possibly both.

In any event, the point you’re attempting to make may be largely irrelevant ... in that they could have made first hand observations of events on the ground that could have served to inform us better ... regardless of the official Chicom party line.

Just heard that one of the very first symptoms for this disease is sudden loss of smell or taste. Like suddenly can't smell a dirty diaper or cat litter, or taste garlic.

About last year I read where the lozenges are more effective but I had been just using zinc pills for years and they seemed to work.

I'm curious, what type of zinc? Zinc citrate or something else? Last year my cousin was talking about someone she knows, that has a prescription for some sort of zinc, something about a compromised immune system. She didn't know anymore than that, but her friend never gets sick. Though im sure her friend is pretty careful too.

Since wife's mom passed one month ago, wondering if one of us should live there until things calm down. Maybe then we wouldn't both get covid at the same time and we could still take care of the dogs etc.

The only time I took Zinc for a cold that was a side effect. It was a couple of weeks after the cold before I went back to normal.

I think the Zinc and Echinacea did shorten the length of the cold.

A small feel good story from the corona virus scare.

In the office I work, the staff was getting very nervous on Friday due to the rumors of a nationwide shutdown. One lady, who is a single mom, just joined us on Monday: she burst out that they couldn’t do that, that she hadn’t bought groceries yet. We calmed her down, assuring things would be fine.

A little while later I observed someone talking to her quietly- I could see she was crying but it didn’t look like fear. She left the office shortly and was gone for about an hour. About 30 minutes after she left, the other person left for the day. I noticed later that her car had a couple of weeks groceries in the back. Doing the math, my guess is she was told to go pick out what she needed and the other person met her at the store and paid for it. A simple act of kindness just because she needed it. It

Did you read the information you posted?

Yup, you betcha.

The person left in September due to the trade issues we had with China at the time. . ...

That would seem to be your interpretation of the reporting in the article - that trade issues were the CAUSE of her leaving.

The article doesn’t actually say that though.

I read it differently - rather than reporting the cause, the article reports the TIMING ... and covers the trade issues simply to give context or a frame of reference for WHEN her leaving occurred.

... Quick left amid a bitter U.S. trade dispute with China when she learned her federally funded post, officially known as resident adviser to the U.S. Field Epidemiology Training Program in China, would be discontinued as of September, the sources said. The U.S. CDC said it first learned of a “cluster of 27 cases of pneumonia” of unexplained origin in Wuhan, China, on Dec. 31. ...

Pretty sure the Chicoms don’t dictate what we fund at the federal level ... at least not yet.
