The current coronavirus pandemic will end. The only question is how. There are four possible ways:

1. Coronavirus proves to be seasonal
2. Herd immunity
3. A vaccine
4. Therapeutic drugs

As a first responder, we have stepped up cleaning efforts significantly. When we respond to any emergency - fire, car accident, medical call etc, we now have to be in full gear for all calls - boots, bunker pants, turnout coat, flash hood, helmet, gloves, self contained breathing apparatus on our back in case we need it and N95 face mask on. All victims are assumed to be sick with CV, so they get N95 masks as well. After each call, we take off our gear outside the firehouse (gets chilly in the snow!) and all of our turnout gear is washed with a special hospital grade detergent after each call. The interior of the trucks are cleaned with a 10:1 water / bleach solution after each call.

The thing that seems different to me about this virus than others is how is can take down otherwise healthy adults. With the regular flu, the old and young are at risk. The CV hits the old for sure, but there are plenty of patients in their 40's and 50's that are in the ICU and breathing on ventilators and may not make it. That's not normal.

So you feel this has the ability to never go away and essentially create a new isolationist need to sustain life?

We're not going to have isolate forever. Once the hospitals have open beds in their ICUs it'll be safe for people to get it. Or as safe as it's going to get. Especially since by then there will be better treatments for covid-19 so the death rate will be lower. People with existing respiratory problems or weak immune systems or advanced age may have to isolate until there's a vaccine.

OTOH, if we were forced to self-isolate forever, in a couple generations that would fix the overpopulation problem!
(I'm kidding, people would break the isolation rules to pair up).

It will change a lot of things though. Hopefully there will be more planning and inter-government cooperation for the next one. It has been good to see the wide cooperation of the scientific community including scientists from China.

I suspect that it will be a combination of some or all on your list. For now I plan to do as they recommend, doing my best to avoid becoming one of the statistics.

I'd say the best defense with the virus is a good offense. Do what you have to to isolate you from others, wash your hands often with SOAP AND HOT WATER, don't touch your eyes or mouth (remember the interconnection between them and your lungs and inner workings), be anti social and avoid places where people congregate.

Sure am glad I live in a remote area and I can control 100% who I interact with.

I don't live in a remote area but I do like a good offense.After watching Laura Ingram last Mon nite I went tues morning and ask my doc for a scrip of hydroxychloroquine.He called it in and I got it. Have 10 200 mg tabs I can use for 5 days if I get this virus,or 1 tab per week for 10 weeks to keep from getting it. Take with Zinc for full effect.I'm good

I understand the practical limitations with trying to test a lot of people, but there is a large amount of useful data that comes from doing so. If you aren't testing, then how do you track the progression of the disease, where it is moving, and if/when the peak has passed? Without this information, how do you know when it is safe to lift/implement bans?

Quite frankly, I'm surprised they haven't instituted random testing in the population just to try to get a handle on the number of people that are asymptomatic. Purely for the sake of argument, if the number of people that are asymptomatic is 98%, the policy response will likely be much different than if it is 2%.

Good data informs good policy. Poor data informs poor policy.

We already know that the majority of people that are showing symptoms and are tested do NOT have the virus. This percentage is somewhere over 90 percent depending on area. MOST people that are showing symptoms and are tested are suffering from the seasonal flu. Like me for instance.

How can your Dr. issue those instructions when that drug hasn't even been tested vs. COVID-19?
