Japanese flu drug 'clearly effective' in treating coronavirus, says China

Zhang Xinmin, an official at China’s science and technology ministry, said favipiravir, developed by a subsidiary of Fujifilm, had produced encouraging outcomes in clinical trials in Wuhan and Shenzhen involving 340 patients.

“It has a high degree of safety and is clearly effective in treatment,” Zhang told reporters on Tuesday.

Patients who were given the medicine in Shenzhen turned negative for the virus after a median of four days after becoming positive, compared with a median of 11 days for those who were not treated with the drug, public broadcaster NHK said.

That’s great news ...

The small town where I live is like the day the earth stood still, crazy.Anyway,I'm high risk so I talked to my Doc Tuesday and told him I needed a scrip for hydroxychloroquine. He wasn't aware so he researched for a few minutes and called it in. Went to the pharmacy and they said"Oh,you're the one. We've been expecting you. It'll be few minutes".So,I waited and they called over the intercom.I walked out with it but had to order some zinc pills. Got 10 200Mg,enough for 5 day supply and that should be enough to knock the virus out. The hydroxychloroquine weakens the cell structure so the Zinc can enter and destroy it. I can take one pill a week along with the Zinc for a preventative measure. Not FDA approved but I got it anyway.

Went to the store earlier this afternoon after work. This one had potatoes and cabbage. But, no bread, rice, beans, flour, sugar. Very little breakfast cereal. No instant potatoes. No vegetable oil. Very low on butter. No peanut butter. Plenty of wine, beer and liquor. Lots of milk. Overall, all of the shelves were on average, 1/5 bare. This is a very large supermarket. Local chain. Never seen this before, even on blizzard days.

With the powers that be predicting the length of time this could be an issue and how long folks may be expected to stay at home etc...The more supplies they have at home the longer they can maintain...it should be expected...
...What's the longest a blizzard has ever lasted?
