Governor Expects More Than Half Of Californians To Become Infected With Coronavirus

California Gov. Gavin Newsom expects about 56% of the state's population more than 22 million Californians to be infected with the coronavirus over an eight-week period.

The estimate was in a letter Newsom sent to President Trump, dated Wednesday, asking Trump to deploy the naval hospital ship Mercy to the waters off of Los Angeles through the beginning of September.

Newsom wrote that the ship would help "decompress" the health care delivery system during the anticipated crisis.

"Our state and health care delivery system are significantly impacted by the rapid rise of COVID-19 cases," the letter said.

The letter, made public by Newsom's office on Thursday, said the case rate was doubling every four days in some parts of the most populous U.S. state.

As of Thursday, California had 675 confirmed cases of COVID-19, according to the California Department of Public Health.

With the powers that be predicting the length of time this could be an issue and how long folks may be expected to stay at home etc...The more supplies they have at home the longer they can maintain...it should be expected...

Dunno ... but I remember getting snowed in one time and IIRC, it was around 10 days before the county had the roads plowed to where you could travel.

CA ordered people to stay home.
I talked to my BIL, a family doctor, he's about limited his going out to walking the dogs. But he lives in town.
I asked him about diesel at Walmart - their pump was down Monday at 7 am. He asked why did I need diesel and when I told him to run the tractor and I've lot's of jobs to do even staying at home he almost sounded jealous.
Then I told him that the closest I've gotten to another human (besides my wife/his sister) since Monday at 7am was about 30 feet when the UPS guy dropped off a package he groaned.

If they put on a stay at home ban I'll be limited to about 70 acres. Fine by me.

The prime minister of the Netherlands told citizens on Thursday there is no shortage of toilet paper.

"Yes, I have enough," Mark Rutte told a shopper in an informal exchange while visiting a supermarket to show support for workers. "They have it [on shelves] again."

"But there's enough in the whole country for the coming 10 years," he said. "We can all poop for 10 years."

"Gas pumps tend to be the dirtiest things a person touches. 71 percent of gas pump handles are highly contaminated with microbes associated with illness and disease, according to a study by the Kimberly-Clark Corporation. Our test result say the same thing.

"When we looked at bacteria levels based on colony-forming units (CFU) the number of viable bacteria cells on items commonly thought of as dirty, gas pumps and buttons were the absolute filthiest. On average, gas pumps have more than 11,000 times more bacteria than the common household toilet seat.

"And pump station buttons fare even worse: roughly 15,000 times more"

Facebook is now reporting Murray KY has our first positive case of COVID-19.

One of the local MD's is to discuss what this means for our rural college town at noon tomorrow. The FB report said the positive case attended University Church of Christ service this past Sunday. It is a very large church on the north side of Murray and one of the few that met when others met by video steaming. Thankfully the Governor has most of the state shut down this week and this news will help shut down more local gatherings.

It would be nice to wake up and hear this FB report was fake news.

When it hits home COVID-19 jokes suddenly sound ignorant.

Better yet drizzle some gas from another nozzle on the nozzle you want to use. That will kill the germs

Don't get the binge buying at all except to say it's the selfishness of people at work. I will say that buying up all that food and then losing your job and not being able to pay the huge CC debt will probably be stressful on them. Fine with me actually.
