I think it is too bad we can't all get N-95 masks. It looks like it would help. Even if every one wore cloth surgical masks it seems like it would help contain the droplets that you breath out.

My inventory was just requsitioned for the ER at our sister facility... Not that I stock many compared to surgical masks... In 29 years this is a first

If you look at the definition...well down the list you will see this:

My wife left a note on the kitchen table that if she gets the virus she wants to be put on a ventilator because she thinks she can beat it. I guess she thinks I'll let her slip away them take her insurance payout and run off with someone's grandma.

The coronavirus saved our car. We were supposed to be at friend's house for coffee this morning. They called it off a couple days ago because of our bad immune systems. That's not panic it's smart. Have you ever heard of anybody getting infected riding a tractor? I'm not panicked but I am a little concerned. I heard if things get bad enough they may restrict travel. I am kind of counting on being able to get to the farm to keep from going stir crazy at home.

No, but there's quite a few stories about people finding bee nests with their tractors. Quite entertaining if you're not allergic to them.

No one said a million ventilators. They said a million respirators, as in DUST MASK.

One of us made a bad assumption. Mine came from the statement in the original thread

"Am glad they are increasing capacity to manufacture safety equipment. In the beginning someone quoted we had 150K respirators and we needed a million."

If you are correct, and my assumption of what the OP meant was incorrect, I find it hard to believe we have only 150k masks in the country. Maybe he meant "locally". BTW, the other factoid I used to support my assumption is 150k is what I read somewhere about number of ventilators; although the actual number is somewhat of a "national security" secret.

People often confuse a ventilator with a mask. This is a ventilator and how it works and what it does:

I thought I had read that there was a national reserve of emergency medical equipment that included 150k masks.

I read that the average age of CV-19 deaths in Italy is 79.5 and most had high blood pressure.. I wonder if it was high blood pressure that was not being treated? I heard about the malaria drug that has some promise on the CV update from Feds this morning..

Regarding N95 masks, 3M is making 35million per month, but only 5million were approved for medical. The feds got that changed very recent and now the whole 35 million are available for medical use.. other companies are stepping up, heard GM might make ventilators at some of the auto plants.

There was some talk that ACE blood pressure medicines may increase the likelihood of getting the virus. Meds ending in -pril for one.
