I read an article this morning, quoting a virologist from Harvard. They agreed the death rate is not accurate due to under reported cases. They said it is likely in the .2% range instead of the latest 2% being reported.

Guess the bottom line here is...

Some of us here will contract it at some point. Some of us will survive, some won't. Not your choice except to do everything possible not to be a 'won't'.... Fare as I see it, common sense prevails and panic only breeds more panic. Having said that, I'm glad I don't live in Washington State right now.

Im hoping this virus is suppressed by conditions of warm weather, like conventional flu viruses. That will get us way further along on the vaccine development cycle.

I suspect it is everywhere, or soon will be in a few days.
My understanding is when presenting symptoms to your doctor, they're aren't even testing for it unless they know you've travelled from a few certain areas (countries) or "know" you've been exposed.
I think the only good data there is, is the number of deaths....but this number is almost meaningless when we don't know the real number of people who got it to determine its mortality rate.

I'm glad that there doesn't seem to be panic around here. I think people are concerned. Looks like people may be trying to take measures to be prepared. Hand sanitizer is in short supply in the stores I have been in. The local paper said n-95 masks are pretty much out of stock. I have been trying to get a stock of non perishable food in case we can't get out for a couple of weeks. If things get worse than that I'm not sure what we will do.

I saw two different things about warm weather.
1) I read that there have been cases in Australia and Brazil which are at the end of their summer.
2) I saw a speculation that the outbreak would be much less along the equator because people get so much sun that their bodies are making plenty of vitamin D.

All it takes is for you to report an offending post so the mods can deal with it rather than replying to it, adding to the job of the mods to remove not only the offending posts, but your replies, quotes, etc... of each other. Do us a favor and report posts rather than replying to them and pouring gas on the fire.

I try to avoid hand sanitizer, preferring to use soap and water. But here is a recipe to make your own, Make Your Own Hand Sanitizer - Clean My Space
with two items I keep on hand. My aloe doesn’t come from a store though, and needs to be repotted anyways.

I wondered about alcohol based hand sanitizer. I seen to remember hearing that it wasn't very useful for killing virus. The last I heard recently was to leave it wet on your hands for 15 seconds. They do seem to be empathizing washing hands with soap and water.

Is there any update on whether the Chinese are cooperating and allowing U.S. and other researchers into the location of the initial outbreak?

I saw stories early in the outbreak that they were very protective and secretive to the exclusion of outside medical personnel. But I have not seen any updates since?

My hands dry out enough this time of year, I really don’t need to add alcohol to the mix.

Something else that offers a high rate of transfer and risk are the styluses that are used for CC purchase signatures in stores...
