Well, of course it is the disparity in proportion. However, ALSO, of course, we need to keep it in mind to factor that proportion back a little due to the probable large number of mild Corona cases not detected.

So . . . Why is it the US is not testing many thousands/day?​

I think it will end up being a similar threat as other flu for those who are infected by it. But the big difference could be how many will be infected, and that could overwhelm hospitals. This will be due to there being no vaccine to slow the spread and drastically limit the number of people who are infected. In severe flu seasons, it's not uncommon for area hospitals to be 100% full. What happens when the number infected is 2 to 4 times that? When Doctors and nurses are also infected at high rates, that compounds things more. In my opinion, that's the difference other counties have seen, and we might see the same.

Here is another data point. I saw my family doctor today. He didn't seen very concerned about covid 19. He thought the media had made it seem worse than it was. He said we won't really know until we get into it.

I suspect that some people get mild cases of the flu. I wonder if there are people with mild flu who are contagious? Do you think there are people with some form of the flu who are not counted? Would that change the statistics?

Yes but the zinc compound in cold-ez has been tested to reduce the severity and duration and can reduce the number of colds people get if taken regularly.

Hate to tell you but the studies touted by these manufacturers are very suspect. Reduction of 1% over placebo? They can claim a reduction. I dont think you will find medical professionals saying Zinc is any sort of a cure. It isnt harmful to you so give it a shot...but I am far from convinced it is actually effective.

The reference I saw was from the National Institute of Health but I didn't read the actual study paper.
No doubt that scams are everywhere.

I'm not convinced about Zinc but I'm neutral, I think more research is justified. My assigned GP at Kaiser is ethnic Chinese and his diplomas on the wall include Brazil as well as US, so I think he grew up there. Kaiser allows trials of traditional folk medicine if added to orthodox treatment (but they won't pay for it). The doctor suggested Echinacea and Zinc tablets at the first sign of a cold. He said this is traditional Chinese medicine he learned from family elders, and for some people it seems to reduce severity of the cold if taken soon enough. So try it and see.

I think the Echinacea might help, I'm not sure. Zinc I'm more cautious about. I looked up both on the internet before trying either. One side effect noted for Zinc is numbing one's sense of taste and I saw a couple of complaints of taste lost forever. I went to sleep with a Zinc tablet dissolving in my mouth, that was a mistake, my sense of taste took a month to come back to normal.

I think its too early for all this panic and fear mongering crap going on and again the media is overboard. This is a virus and like many viruses you can only slow its progress. Ultimately you have to let your immune systems kill it.

As for where it all began-who knows. I do know that panic and fear will accomplish nothing.
