And you can often get away with that.
Some times you can't. I've seen several wet sleeve engines where the anti freeze was neglected have cavitation, where they had pin holes from the outside of the cylinder walls in.
Needed a complete engine over haul because of it.
I never said neglected . Always tested for strength every year and changed with visible signs of contamination . Any pourous engines we've had have been at very low hours some still under warranty .And always been a trend with brand or model , Had a tractor pourous at 3 years old with 1800hrs with dealership maintenance . Majority of our machines are 1980's up to early 2000's ranging from 4000 to 20'000hrs with no trouble .
