Showoff that sure put my colors to shame

This little baby girl has been bedding down in our side yard about 20ft from where we park. She's got an injured front leg. Figure she slipped and fell walking along the edge of the neighbors ditch. Picking up corn and sweet feed to put out for her tonight.

I've only seen flying squirrels a few times in my life. Once when driving into our driveway at night, hanging on the side of a tree. One other time, can't recall specifics. Then there was the time our cat brought one into the house, it ran up the 11' wall to the peak, jumped off, glided across the room and landed on my sister's head. She screamed. It jumped off, ran up another wall, jumped off and glided across the room, over and over. Finally someone opened all the doors and eventually it found its way out.

There is an Eagle nearby our house the last few days. I can’t swear to it but there might be a nest about 500 feet off the road. I took a look with binoculars just to make sure it wasn’t a squirrel nest and I’m pretty sure it’s all sticks. I’d like to get some pictures but it’s tough to get them of birds without a serious telephoto lens.

There was a group of flying squirrels across the street at my neighbors house.

Whenever I was out walking our GSD and the neighbor was out, we would stop by for a visit.

Our GSD was amazed by them. She would just lay down next to me while we were talking and watch their every move

I used to have flying squirrels here for many years, but they chewed a bunch of holes in what used to be a woodshed it’s now used mostly for garbage and storage. I managed to catch four different ones in live traps and hauled them to a lake a few miles away and let them go. that was a couple years ago and I haven’t seen any since. Hopefully they were able to make new homes somewhere around the lake.

I don't have any patience for regular squirrels, but flying squirrels receive a "Get Out of Jail Free" pass.

Maybe it's their big eyed cuteness factor...
