Yeah, the vacuum typically comes from the throttled intake of a gas engine. A diesel doesn't have that unless the air filter is really dirty.

Why not keep it real simple and try adding a large spring to the linkage some where? What I mean is piggy back the linkage with a spring. Kind of like how a spring helps you lift your garage door. You could go to the hardware and get a few and get it where the clutch would only take light pressure to operate.

Diamondpilot wouldn't you risk burning the clutch if the pressure weren't adjusted just right?

Well yes, that is a given. All I a suggesting is to remove some of the pressure needed. Lets say it takes 45# of force to move the clutch pedal as is you could reduce it to maybe 20# or less with the proper spring setup.

I think a constant reverse spring tension would reduce the grip of the pressure plate and wear out the throwout bearing. Remember the old admonition "Don't rest your foot on the clutch pedal."

You may be very right. Just a thought. That is what makes this site so great. You can run your ideas past others who will give their $.02 and prove it right or wrong.

I think the best fix is for him to get a hydro stat tractor or just give it up all together. I know its a hard pill to swallow but my grandfather had to give up driving a few years back. He just was not safe anymore.

Cool maybe an excuse for him to go new tractor shopping..:D Dealing with my Dad at 80 not being able to drive his vehicle right now due to a brain tumor which is causing him to forget things like where home is.:(.. I even took my tractor keys out of his house because I was worried he was going to jump on my Kubota and try to drive into the city or something.....

many years ago M&W made a clutch arm extension for Farmall's that made the pedal easier to push but but had more travel it would be easy to make one.

how about trading it on an hst tractor and taking the clutch out of the equation?

+1

its just like the decision of when to take away the auto keys for driveing. at some point you have to make a call to protect your loved ones.
