Buying Advice Considering Jinma 284

   / Considering Jinma 284 #11
We have a 2005 284 that we paid a mechanic $2,500. this summer to supply parts & “repair cylinder head, overhaul radiator, replace cracked therm housing, replace all hoses, clean oil from cooling system, change oil & filters multiple times to clean out lube system.” Shortly after this unexpected expense, the tractor broke down again, and now we have a different mechanic telling us that we need to repair the engine with the following parts required:
1.) Crankshaft
2.) connecting rod
3.) rod bearings
4.) main crankshaft bearing
5.) complete gasket overhaul kit
6.) set of piston rings
Where can I get pricing on these parts, and are they available in BC (preferably)? Or can anyone give me a total price delivered to BC? Once we know what the parts will cost, we can add this to the 40 hrs or less that the mechanic figures it will take to re & re it all. Then we can decide if we should repair this tractor or sell/trade it while it is not running.
We are going broke hobby farmers on 117 acres with very little mechanical experience, and any thoughts/suggestions/assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Happy New Year,
Sylvia (& Ray)

I suggest you repost this text in a new topic. You'll get more responses. Until then my first thought was "wrong tool for the job". Even with help from the Massey, a 200 Series is simply not enough tractor for 117 acres

We agree, Greg. We originally bought the Jinma when we only had 13 acres up here - your JD sure looks nice - I guess "if wishes were tractors, beggars would ride"
What does a new engine landed in BC cost, Tommy? If you don't want to post a price here, you can email me at: sylray@telus.net
Thanks for your input, guys,
Sylvia

What were the problem indicators before the first repair?

What are the problem indicators now?

If you're still in the vicinity of a dealer, why not trade the non-running 254 for a model more consistent with your acreage? This is suggested on the assumption that a dealer of Chinese tractors should have a customer base interested in used parts. I recommend a Foton (or EuroLeopard) above 50 hp

Ray and Sylvia, hate to hear about your problems but if you'll go to Jinma Tractor Parts, Farm Pro Tractor Parts, Farmpro, Nortrack, Agracat and on right hand side under tractor and engine models scroll down to the Y385 engine parts and you can find every part you need with pictures and pricing or we have the complete engine and we ship worldwide, or if you'd like you can give us a call (662-252-5272) and do everything over the phone. Thanks
