Update on my search, I drove out (260 miles) and tested the JD4120. The tractor works very well. (probably no surprise to those of you who have one).

But cosmetically is was a little rougher than what I thought it would be for the price that they are asking, so my search goes on.

Funny how this works I was in my truck driving back when my good friend called saying he just spotted a 4120 (close to home!!) and it looks pretty good. I talked to the dealer (priced thousands less than the one I just looked at) and he gave me the guys name that owned it. the former owner called last night telling me the reason he go rid of it was it has R1 Ag tires and since his business is tree service he needed turf tires to keep from leaving marks in his clients yards.Replacing the tires and wheels cost $2300 so he decided to get a tractor with turf tires on it. He commented on the only thing that he could say that was wrong with the JD4120 was the fuel tank when filled leaked, he was told by someone that there is a check valve that might need to be replaced. Anyone know about this???

Also if I buy this tractor I may consider changing out the R1 tires for R4 any one know f the rims are the same?

Completely different rims and aspect ratios, Ag R1 tires and rims can be sold or traded though. I have R4 tires on my 4520 and 110 but R1 tires on the 820, they all have their place, I would make certain I liked the tractor for awhile before changing a full set of tires and rims. The R1 tires are on 28" rims and the R3 and R4 tires are on 24" rims.

I wonder if you could find 28 inch R4's (and 8 inch front R4's) that would fit the R1 rims?? Never have looked into whether such a tire exists... 28inch and 8inch R4's. Have to be able to duplicate the rolling ratio of the front and rear wheels, though.

Maybe sounds like a lucky turn of events in tschwerm's quest for a 4120!

Well, Wasn't meant to be. I talked to the salesman on Saturday and had plans of going there today and poof!! tractor was sold early yesterday morning. Now talking to another long distance dealer who has interest in my trade and does business close to my home with another customer his starting price is $2000 less than the first one I looked and plus it only has about 135 hours on it.

We will see if this will work out.

Thanks so much for your inputs learning a lot through your experiences. No price to put on that value.

I will keep you posted on the continuing saga on finding the right one.:)

How bout an update?! I'm considering a 4120 also.

If it's not too late; I also agree, you're basically gonna be giving away your trade-in tractor. Just like buying a car when you have a trade-in: You should not mention the trade-in until you have a firm deal on the new one alone ... then bring up the possibility of your trade-in.

Put your tractor on the sites and try to sell Tractor house, Fastline, etc.

The 4120 is a good machine. I would for sure get the e-hydro which is not standard on the 4120. I had a 4720 open station for 3-4 years and I now have a 4520 cab. Great machines - we will be raking 100 acres of hay with the 4520 in the next couple days.

The 4720 would still be here, but raking hay in an open station tractor in a Texas summer is for the birds.

Not much seat time yet on 4120, but more to come. I'm pretty impressed with it's grunt for the least hp in the series. Surprising how easy it can fill a 6' box blade w/ hard pack clay. I was looking for a Kubota in the L3940-4740 range and came across the 4120 and could'nt resist. Keep looking & be patient if possible - I'd been looking for a year or so.

I think many of us dont need the extra HP.

I will tell you this, I have a JD 5525 and I run a 10'6 Krone disc mower on it. I am glad I have it. Knowing what the plan is with this equipment seems to be the most important. It is like buying a 1 ton truck because you might buy a boat but dont really have any plans.
