I need some advice on concrete repair. I've got a 1 1/2 year old slab in my pole barn. It's 4' thick, fiber refinnforced, and has hydronic heating (pex) tubing embeded within it. Anyway, I have some flaking & breaking of the top layer going on. This has occured around the floor drain and I think road salt draining off my truck has caused this. I'd like to repair it, espically to stop any future flaking/eroding. Any tips or help greatly appriciated! Thanks.
PS - its a small area, about 2 sq.ft. at this point.

Wash it real well with lots of fresh water then dry throughly, remove as much loose material as you can and flood-coat the whole floor with epoxy?

I'd suggest cleaning off the area using a wire brush or ?? and then apply a concrete friendly epoxy type coating/sealer. Can't advise on any brand names.

It sounds to me like it is more of a problem with the concrete slump and the method of finish when the floor was poured. The epoxy paint may help but the fast and easy fix doesn't always work with concrete.

I think you might be partially right BigTiller. The slab was poured in some pretty cold conditions. The building was heated, but I think a cold draft came through the floor drains. They were not completed yet. It is possible that the bad area around the drain froze during the curing process. Anyway, I need a good fix for this.....any more ideas? This is a 1700 sq ft barn and I've got about 2 sq ft of flaking.........I just don't want it to continue or spread.
