GlueGuy,

Clear as mud!!

Now to make things even murkier... based upon your moniker, one would assume that your interest lie close to woodworking not web development. But then again, I assumed something. We all know what assume really means.... /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

DTD's seem to be where the real work is done. So, one needs to program more underlying code to be able to use XML and everyone is trying to develop DTD's to suit their needs. Is someone trying to standardize some of this code and publish it (similar to Internet standards) so that everyone isn't reinventing the wheel? Or am I going off the deep end and overthinking this.

Being an ex-programmer, this is interesting stuff and I can see the power behind it.

Well, Henry slipped another post in and provided some more juicy tidbits.

D, your simple question has now turned into a diatribe of ultimate geekdom questions and remarks.

Thank you GlueGuy and Henry for your excellant information.

There's a mini-explanation of the moniker in my profile. Hint: It's neither woodworking nor web development.

Yes, I forgot about that.... now I remember reading in quite awhile back.

My father-in-law and a friend recently went through that experience. They built an ultra-light airplane. It flew once with one of the builders. It proved to be a little unstable. The next flight was with a check-out pilot. It crashed!! Luckily, no one was hurt. The plan was nearly destroyed. Three years to build, one day to break, two more years to rebuild. /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

Orthogonal? We're talking quicksand and somebody wants to throw in an anchor. Seriously though, yes the explanations you guys posted did somewhat clear it up for me. I had envisioned it more as being a set of data points (pixel locations, if you will) to identify each character, letter, etc. And that's probably why I couldn't understand using LESS coding. Looks like it's time to head for the library and read up on this some more. While I'm there maybe I can find some big words too!

OK, was reading this along with Terry's post and another question comes to mind? With XML, can the tags be used in the place of field names?

<font color=blue>you need another item, called a DTD... to describe the tags in an XML document</font color=blue>

Sort of like a style sheet in HTML?

I finished building mine in 1988, and have flown it across the country a few times; even went to Alaska in it. My wife's relatives live on opposite ends of this state (California), and the EZ saves a lot of time when we go visit.

Yep, it's a Rutan design. Very stable; virtually stall proof; very efficient (30+MPG with one person aboard).

<font color=blue>can the tags be used in the place of field names?</font color=blue>
Sure can, in fact, they often are the field names. Pretty handy when comparing two descriptions of the data, or when trying to move data from one DB to another.

Well, I don't think of it that way, but it's not a bad analogy.
