Grading with what? Box blade. rear blade, land plane/ How big/ heavy ?
Again, I haven't graded with anything yet. But will eventually with my 60" box blade, 72" angle blade or 60" land plane. These are what I used with my previous tractor.

Do you know how to properly operate a HST trans? They aren’t like an accelerator pedal. The parking brake isn’t set is it?

Do you have HST? Try a geared tractor or stay in low range.

If you have a Yanmar dealer nearby check out
this tractor: YT3 Series | YANMAR Tractor
warranty is 6 years and maybe 2 year bumper to bumper warranty and if you sell with 2 year warranty
left you can transfer the warranty to new owner.

Interesting tractor. The closest dealer is over 100 miles away but it may be worth looking into. Thanks!

15 percent is no hill at all. Even 15 degrees isn’t considerable for a tractor to drive up.
Well, it is kinda steep if you're in high range, which it sounds like the OP expects to use going uphill.

beeser, 40 HP should be plenty for mid-range to go full speed up a hill in 4WD. Pulling a loaded rear blade, maybe not though. What rpms are you running at?

Beeser, you need to demo some tractors on your property before you even consider a replacement.

I can’t fathom that your new tractor can’t perform the work you’re expecting assuming it’s running as advertised and you operating it as designed.

It’s time to demo some alternative tractors on your property and those results can direct your next course of action.

The OPs expectations are clearly not aligned with reality or he’s a noob operator. Probably both. He might’ve brought a tractor that’s too small but no tractor is going to drive up steep hills in high range without bogging much less while pulling a scraper blade. And agreed that tractor should run all over mild to medium hills in medium range if it’s functioning properly and the rpms are high enough.

I'm struggling to see how a new 40 HP machine is feeling weaker than an old little Deere 855 though. Both hydrostats, should operate similarly. Maybe gotta take it back to the dealer for a checkup?

About 15%
My Branson is 37hp and the base tractor weighs 4100 lbs. The rear tires are loaded which is another 800. That's about 2000 lbs more than yours with about the same power. I can drive up a 22% grade (measured) in medium range with a grapple on the front and 1000lb chipper on the back. I need to set the throttle to PTO rpm to do it. But it will do it. If it's much steeper I need low range with the same load.

it's possible that your machine's middle range is geared super high but failing that it seems like your machine should be stronger than it is given its specs.
