We live in a semi-rural area and have a great community. For example, my son, who just moved into the property next to mine, needed help moving a big refrigerator up some stair into the house. I couldn't help because I have vertigo and stairs are especially treacherous. So my son posts a message offering 4 cooked and cleaned crabs we got yesterday for help. And this really strong guy shows up this morning and practically does the whole job himself, removing the old fridge and bringing in the new. I never experienced this kind of help when I lived in the suburbs.

My experince has been similiar, living in the big city it was harder to find people willing to help out. In the rural area I live in now its just a phone call away. Even if the person I call can't help at the time, they know someone generally who can.

Yeah. Most of my "working years" were spent living in "country suburbia" (ie-suburbs, but good sized lots and houses spaced out a bit)...I think I knew more of my neighbors here after only a year or two than I did in 35 at my previous house.
