""The battery terminals are still coated with that greasy stuff from the factory ""

To preserve a good connection and stop corrosion:

Remove the terminals from the battery.

Clean off the grease with a little gas.

Scrape the inside of the terminals, and the outside of the posts, with a knife or wire bursh to show clean shiny lead. (Copper tubing brushes work great!)

Coat all the surfaces with GE Silicon cement.

Attach the terminals immediately.

Smooth the Silicon with your spit on your finger for a smooth shiny finish.

The terminals will retain a good connection, and look pretty, much longer than when assembled dry, or with grease or Vaseline!!!

/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif PS: Yes! I know that the Silicon is an insulator, but tightening the connection forces it out of the actual connection points! The remaining Silicon protects the joint from air, water, and acid.

/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif PPS: When using Stak-On in-line wire connectors, fill the tube with Silicon before inserting the wires and crimping. This will provide a nice waterproof connection.
